    Starter temp vs carboy temp?

I've heard about folks using the cool down method, but I plan on pitching the entire starter (due to preference & time constraint). It makes sense to pitch at same temps, but I'm concerned that the temp will climb once pitched. Not to mention 68-70F is the upper end of the initial fermentation...

    Starter temp vs carboy temp?

I just started pitching starters. So far ale starters. I've been pitching the starters around 70F. However, in the past, before using starters, I would generally pitch my ale yeasts around 62F. Then let it rise. So I'm wondering if I should still practice this method when pitching a...

Raising Fermentation Temp To Clean Up

Makes sense. Leaving it on carboy. Currently controller/carboy at target temp of 71F. Ambient 79F. Seems to be stabilizing. Thanks again.

Raising Fermentation Temp To Clean Up

I'm using a Brewer's Edge fermentation space heating pad stuck to inside wall of fridge being controlled by a Brewer's Edge controllerII. So the probe is currently place and insulated to outside of carboy. Current carboy temp 67-68F. Current set controller temp to 72F, differential of 1...

Raising Fermentation Temp To Clean Up

Thanks guys. So it sounds alright to bring the temp up to 70-72F when active fermentation has slowed and the temp wants to drop. As it's not a big swing in temp. As for probe location during fermentation I do tape and insulate it to my carboy, but was wondering when I want to raise the temp...

Raising Fermentation Temp To Clean Up

Sorry, forgot to address another concern. Should probe placement still be insulated to side of carboy when raising the temp on the controller? Or should I dangle it in the chamber, and overshoot in ambient temp to hit my target temp?

Raising Fermentation Temp To Clean Up

When trying to raise the carboy temp after the initial days of fermentation to drop points and clean up what is a good duration for this step? This is pertaining to my current ale batch. I waited until day 5 of fermentation to raise the carboy temp but my fermentation temp began dropping...

Brewers Edge Controller II & Space Heater

Well figured out that I did have to switch jumpers. Heater works fine.

Brewers Edge Controller II & Space Heater

Been trying to have my Brewers Edge controller II run a brewers edge space heater pad in my fermentation chamber, but pad dos not warm up. I plugged the pad into the controller hours again and set the temp to 75F and the controller's reading hasn't moved from 67F. Should it take this long to...

Pitching ale yeast at low temps

Cali yeast straight from vile. I've brewed quite a few all grain batches with this strain, and have always had fermentation begin within 12 hrs. My concern is that this time I pitched at a slightly lower temp, 60F, than I normally do, usually pitch at 62-64F. However, as I type this there is...

Pitching ale yeast at low temps

However, I do have a question on hooking up the Brewers Edge heating pad to the controllerII. Do you just plug it into controller and hang the probe in the fridge? Like I've done. Or do I need to change the jumpers in controller since I'm heating? Even though I'm only setting the controller...

Pitching ale yeast at low temps

Got them on there. Between the controller, with the probe insulated on the outside of the carboy, and the strip they're very close within a degree or so.

Pitching ale yeast at low temps

Well my concerns look like they are true. +12 hrs later and carboy temp only 62F and ambient 64F. No signs of fermentation. So I hooked up and mounted my brewers edge heating pad on interior wall and dangled probe in fridge and set controller to 68F to warm up ambient temp. and hopefully wake...

Pitching ale yeast at low temps

I have a Brewer's Edge II controller. So if my controller is set to 66F and wrapped to the carboy it's my understanding it will keep the carboy in check at that temp. If it reaches 66F. I know that when fermentation begins it will raise in temp, but if I pitched at 60F and the ambient temp in...

Pitching ale yeast at low temps

I just pitched a vile of Cali yeast at 60F & set the temp control to 65F. So I'll watch it and see where it goes.

Pitching ale yeast at low temps

Yeah I guess that's not really that low. But what temp should I set my controller for? Should I set it for my target ferment temp?

Pitching ale yeast at low temps

I've been cooling my wort down to 62F when I'm pitching different ale yeast with good results. However, I just got my fermentation chamber set up and was wondering if I'm still chilling down to 62F. What temp should I set my controller at? The probe is taped to the side of carboy, insulated...
