Learning android, writing recipe formulator app

I had a few things come up and have not worked on this project in a while. I am thinking about starting it up again, especially if there is interest in the app.

I was able too re-create the glitch you described, I will work on that in a little bit. I have editing done for one of the categories, once I put it in for the other three I will put up a new build. I got busy with other things for a little bit, but I hope to resume my old pace this week.

Glad to hear that the app is moving in the right direction, I agree that the gui needs a lot of attention, boil timers are part of the plan, and I will definitely get a swype menu in there at some point. This past week has been busy, I hope to get back to more rapid development soon.

V0.04 is up, added exporting and improved IBU calculation using average boil gravity instead of OG. Added boil time and linked it to the max hop boil time. Let me know what you want next! Edit: I see that you want editing of ingredients in a recipe... I will work on that.

First time with AG, need advice

It helps to have a way to measure the number of gallons in your kettle mid boil. I have the volumes marked on the side of my brew kettle, a stock or spoon could also be marked gallon by gallon. If you has that information you would know exactly how much wort you had at the beginning of your...

What is the smallest viable all grain batch you have made?

My 40 quart brew kettle has fit on every stove I have encountered so far (4 different places)- No reason not to do a full 5 gallon batch...

Right now I am just looking for feedback. The look will be updated significantly in the future, but the feel should stay about the same. I am hoping people will help me find bugs and point out where my interface is not so intuitive, and where more functionality and features will make a big...

New version is available, added batch size and efficiency and fixed a few things. Please tell me if anything is broken... Has anyone has any trouble importing a file? If you have trouble let me know and I will fix it.

    Hard white wheat

Malting is not possible - his grain is hulled.

    Hard white wheat

Get some rice hulls to help prevent stuck sparges, and use the wheat with a grain that has a high diastic power. There is nothing left in that 50lb bag that can convert starch to sugar so you will have to rely on the enzymes of another grain to do the conversion. Otherwise sounds like a great...

I am working on the load time now... There are a few possible culprits. Next will be options, I should have a new version ready by the end of the week.

Do a search for ”side load app” on whatever device you have. Instructions may vary depending on what the carrier has decided to allow you to do. The APK file is the file that gets installed. In general be careful about side loading apps that do not come from the market. It seems...

    Mash out with direct heat?

I mash out without a false bottom using direct heat... stirring like mad for whole time. I have not noticed any flavour/colour difference from using that method and from skipping that step.

It's hard to RDWHAHB when ..

Iodine turns purple/black in the presence of starch, so the test is super simple - take a drop of liquid from the mash, put it on a white plate, add a drop of iodine. If you see people black flecks, you have starch (conversion if not done). Try it at the beginning of a mash to see what it looks...

Importing is working for me... So there is a new version available. Please let me know if a recipe fails to load, I want this as compatible as possible and I don't have many files to debug with here. Sending an example would be best! Next might be exporting, timers, or options... is there any...

As it turns out, the android platform has no file browser built in... So making a basic file browser is part of getting the file import done. I am getting close, and have taken care of some nuisance items along the way (just made recipes scroll in the main screen). Hopefully I will have an...

Should I make the bjcp styles more obvious in the recipe formulation page? Did anyone try swyping and find that yet ?
