    Breweries near Macomb, MI

I will be in Macomb, MI for a wedding this weekend. Any recommended places in the area to stop in for a pint? Thanks.

    First mead questions.

I am a beer brewer who would like to make some mead. I have made some fruit wine in the past (Apfelwein, Skeeter Pee, Vinter's Harvest Cabernet). (Aside: I pitched the yeast for my first batch of Dragon's Blood last night---apparently I ought not to have gotten the bucket that full.) I would...

Water from water heater tank for brewing

I brew on my back deck, right next to the closet that has my NG heated water heater tank. Is there any reason I can't use the water in it to fill my HLT and save time waiting for water to heat up? Note that if I where to use water from the heater I would use one of these filters on the way...

    Craigslist CO2 Tanks

Just bought two 20lb CO2 tanks off Craigslist for $100. One looks like it has been recently certified and is full, the other looks out of date is half full (or so the guy said). Is there any danger to me or my beer hooking up the out of date tank?

Can anyone tell me what this is?

This regulator looks unlike any I have seen. Any ideas?

    Bar Build (Again...)

I can't edit some of the older posts on the original thread (probably due to forum rules) so I am starting over. The old thread can be found here. I convinced SWMBO to let me convert our loft/office into a loft/bar. The loft is about 17 ft. wide and 10 ft. deep. Most of the actual building...

    Bar Build

I convinced SWMBO to let me convert our loft/office into a loft/bar. The loft is about 17 ft. wide and 10 ft. deep. Suggestions/comments/criticisms on the remainder of the planning are gratefully accepted.

    Keg Conditioning

I have read myself stupid on the subject. I can't seem to find consensus on any of the specifics. For ales (I am not set up for lagers) I plan on: (1) 2 weeks in primary (2) Rack to corny keg and add priming sugar. (3) Leave in corny at room temperature for 3+ weeks. (4) Chill to serving...

    First Fruit Secondary

SWMBO has expressed interest in a fruity beer. I think I am going to do an extract kit with secondary fermentation on some fruit puree in the interest of simplicity my first time. I am not a big fan of hoppy beers. Need I use a wheat extract kit? Might, given my preferences, I be better...

    First Brew Follies

Well, my first brew day started great. I bought a chest freezer and a johnson controlled for a fermentation chamber, it's pretty slick. I bought four 3 gallon better bottles to go in it, pretty neat. I went to measure the temperature of the water before I steeped my grains and I found out...

    Sanke Kegs

Why am I having a hard time finding them? I live in a college town. Should I really expect to pay $50 for them?

Square peg and a round hole, kind of?

From the posts a search returned I gather that the ratio of batch size to fermentor size depends in large part on the type of beer and yeast for the batch in question. This is only tangentally relevant to my question. Many people use chest freezers as fermentation chambers. Many of those...

A thank you is in order.

I am very new to home brewing and have spent the last several weeks reading these forums without saying much. I read mention of Kal's website a couple of places and decided to give it a look. I have not read all of it yet, but what of it have has been extremely informative. I'll stop...

    Wheels?

Why are most of these brew rigs on wheels? The carbon monoxide from the propane burners makes most people brew outside? Sorry for the question that almost certainly has a painfully obvious answer to everyone else around here. I have asked for an extract brewing kit for Christmas but my...
