Clear vinyl tubing - Cloudy water, cloudy beer

3 tier- 2 cooler 1 burner all grain setup with one pump to feed the Mash and HLT. I brewed a batch of Amber Ale and when I measure my water for my strike water I use the mash tun which is marked well for measurements and just let that drain into my kettle to heat the strike water. Well when I...

15 Gallon Conical Fermenter Cooling System

Awesome post guys!!! :tank: It gave me a great idea to use my Keezer with a wood collar to house a 6 gallon bucket filled with water and do a modified version of your whole setup with the fermenter next to it by drilling ports through the wood collar. Then I could even rack straight to a...

    South Florida Hop Growing

Any Idea what is up with my Cascade? All my other hops are doing just fine and i haven't done anything different to any of them. Used mostly good organic soil mixed with mushroom and bat compost.

Action During Aging Process: Good or Bad?

Thx. I took a swig from the hydrometer bc it smelled so freakin good and it was amazing. Mine was crystal clear too. I can't wait for the barleywine to cold age for a while and taste again each month. :rockin:

Action During Aging Process: Good or Bad?

So when I got home I brought the carboy to my kitchen to investigate. The movement cleared some condensation so I got this pic. What it seemed to be was the thinnest layer of film and CO2 coming out of the beer that then became trapped under the film. The whiff smelled amazing! It was so good...

Action During Aging Process: Good or Bad?

Thanks guys. I'll take a whiff and let you know. When you put all that work into a beer and see something you are not used to it's straight to HBT for support or more like a restriction from doing something too hasty especially when you have already RDWA(HadWayTooManyHomeBrews). :mug:

    BeerSmith on Sale

Thanks! I'm on it. 21 day Free Trial as well to test it this weekend. I just want them to make an app for your phone so I can be mobile with it as well. At least an app that will accept your recipe and auto load a Brew Day Timer.

Action During Aging Process: Good or Bad?

So I brewed a Barleywine on 3/5 and let it Primary for 1 month then I racked it to a carboy to allow it to bulk age for 6 months (was the plan). The barleywine has now been in the secondary since 4/5 and it is now 5/25. Last week I started to notice some bubbles gathering on the surface which...

    South Florida Hop Growing

Found this on another sight....... Posted by Laura on Tue, Aug 2, 11 at 0:28 There's an awful lot of misinformation and conflicting info out there on DE, which I'd like to try and help clear up, because I hate to think of folk eating DE with pesticide (yes, some DE has a pesticide bait, such as...

    South Florida Hop Growing

I doubt it was broken off. I thought the same thing on some of mine but found that it was actually Cutworms and Slugs. Go get some Diatomaceous Earth NOT from a pool center, go to Home Depot and get a bag. Gets rid of snails, slugs , and cutworms. Go out at night with a flashlight at a...

    Super Simple 15G Plastic Conical

If you close it then you would be creating a lot of pressure in it and I have a sight glass which would probably bust. Mine stays open. I allow the trub to collect till the next morning (I do night brews) then close the valve, dump the trub, Clean, sanitize, connect sight glass, open valve...

    Condensation in a Dial Thermometer

Thanks for the post. I just had a boil over and my thermometer had a bunch of water/wort in it. I thought about sticking it in the oven but was thinking a higher temp but also thought that would build too much pressure. Paused... read HBT and got my procedure. turned oven on 150F, let it...

    South Florida Hop Growing

My Centennial is over 14 feet now. Others are on their way. My Mt. Hood was stalled out for a while and didn't grow more than 4 inches and stayed there for a few weeks then all of a sudden it shot up like crazy. Sometimes they are just working on their root system so they might not be growing...

    Super Simple 15G Plastic Conical

Sorry the picture isn't that great but I took it as I was leaving to go to work and didn't check it after I took it. At a glance it looked ok so I left. From the ground up to the bottom of the sight glass is 7" then it is another 10" to the bottom plastic of the conical. Total space from the...

    time to become a brewer?

I caught the addiction/passion like you and many other brewers. Work the all grain batches for a while. Sometimes it brings people to the thought of keeping it as a hobby. I however am still pushing towards opening a small time brewpub in Jacksonville but I want to keep my day job...
