DIY 5L Mini Keg Carbonator Bung(onator)

No issues with denting. The biggest issue I ran into was you still need to let the carbonic acid dissipate for the beer to taste best after a force carb. I'm not sure about the avanti system personally but I know of at least one micro-keezer project where the guy built manifolds and had...

I think he started out with just water but was getting freezing at the coil.

    DIY Walk In Cooler Build

Ardex is crazy stuff, I've seen a second coat pull the first off the substrate if not well bonded. You primed so its probably fine but I could see the OSB failing. When you build the second cool room on the other side of the house a solid 1/4" underlayment or even luan plywood stapled down...

DIY glycol chilled plastic conical fermenters

Obviously the tanks are holding temperature well but the reservoir really seems to climb quiet a bit. Do you think you could use a larger reservoir for more thermal mass? Three lagers at once could be pushing it.

Is she up to cruising altitude yet? How often do the zones and main reservoir ac kick on?

Belgian Blond Ale Revvy's Belgian Blonde (Leffe Clone)

19c/~66f is a bit low to finish. I would bump up the temp to 70F and see if they finish. Belgian strains are frequently goosed at the end. Also, what was your mash temp? There's a chance you just have a ton of unfermentables and are stuck with a high FG no mater how much you...

    TeensyPi Networked Temperature Controller

According to maxim, the standard sensor has an operating temperature range of -55°C to +125°C and is accurate to ±0.5°C over the range of -10°C to +85°C. I think the advantage of adding a thermocouple would be accuracy for brewing applications where it gets above 85c. Ie brew day. Jimmy's...

    DIY Walk In Cooler Build

The trick with avoiding condensation is to keep the warm moist air far enough away from the cold surface to avoid dropping below the dew point. The nice thing you have going for you is an arid AZ climate so that dewpoint temp is pretty low to induce condensation. I had assumed you were...

    The older my beer gets...

IMO Bottled conditioned beers don't travel as well. The yeast gets kicked up and changes the flavor. Also if you travel withthem unchilled then the carbonation could get knocked out of solution. Also, With aging beers loose hop flavor and aroma. To me Vacations are a chance to Visit a local...

Belgian Blond Ale Revvy's Belgian Blonde (Leffe Clone)

No problem. One other thing which is probably not what you want to hear but this beer really is best at about a minimum of 8 weeks after brew day. (4 fermentation / 4 conditioning) Each day after its sublimely better. 18 days to keg is pretty quick. Also keep in mind that once you keg and...

Belgian Blond Ale Revvy's Belgian Blonde (Leffe Clone)

Overshooting your mash temp wouldn't necessarily drop the starting gravity. That said you correct that a high finishing gravity would be expected. People brewing ridiculously high abv beers will frequently add small doses of sugar over weeks. I think you could add the sugar now if you really...

DIY glycol chilled plastic conical fermenters

Ah gotcha on the SSR count - had it in my head those were 120v AC valves. I was thinking of using the submersible fountain pumps that do ~150gph with a short amount of lift and are relatively small, 2"x3"x3" They leach heat so the more they run the greater the load on the AC. I'll be...

DIY glycol chilled plastic conical fermenters

Its more pex tubing but do you think a submersible fountain pump for each conical would be easier to manage? There's one less SSR and you don't need to pump that much volume.

    DIY Walk In Cooler Build

I'd skip the cork due to the likelihood of moisture / condensation / spills. The additional r value will be minimal. Cheap ceramic or a Terra cotta tile - either with some texture would be my first choice with a vinyl sheet product as 2nd.

DIY glycol chilled plastic conical fermenters

Here's the HBT thread. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/teensypi-networked-temperature-controller-375635/ Its still fairly involved to set up but Jimmy has been supporting it fairly well.

DIY glycol chilled plastic conical fermenters

Very well done. Your chiller / conical table rig + JimmyHugh's rasberrypi brain build for its interface, web access, and ease of adding control zones would be the ultimate fermentation system. Sub'd!

24hr lagtime between sparge and boil

Attempted an overnight mash late last night with the expectation of boiling this morning. Some things popped up and I didn't get back to the mash tun until a few hours ago. The temp had only dropped 14 degrees to 138F so I was hopeful and started warming sparge water. The first runnings had...

Belgian Blond Ale Revvy's Belgian Blonde (Leffe Clone)

You are correct, don't boil the grain. Sparging run off into a secondary vessle, BIAB, or creating a new mash tun are all viable options that will result in beer. Your described way may be a longer brew day as you still need a way to heat sparge water. Small pot on the stove? BIAB is a...

    Group Buy in Chicago #8
