Anyone using a B3 heated and cooled conical?

To heat it they use something like http://www.htdheattrace.com/pdfs/Type%20G%20Conical%20Systems%20brochure.pdf it don't think it is this companies though. If I was to do over I would buy there normal conicals. Then find some way to use glycol to cool it. I think it would be more efficient and...

    Grain Storage Options

Like the screw on lids, hate the others -- scraped up my fingers to many times trying to get them off. Think this was why I luv the vaults so much. Can get into them pull grains and have an air tight container without moving anything. We had a real problem with field mice when we moved into...

    Brew Magic Sabco System

:) a BIG propane tank -- once you start using it you will be brewing allot more.. The best thing I think I bought for me brewing was the plate chiller. It cut about an hour or more off of my brew day and really lets me dial in the temp of wort going into the fermentors.

    Brew Magic Sabco System

Yes have and use one. Like anything it has its good points and bad... The biggest one I ran into had to do with mash in and mash temps. Best way I have found is heat mash water in HLT. Do not put grains in mashtun, move water over to mashtun, using back fill and top, reheat water to temp. Add...

    Blichmann Therminator question

I fill with starsan cap tight and store filled. On brewday hook up run wort through into a bucket until it looks like clean wort, move output into fermentor. What little starsan if any that gets into fermentor isn't going to hurt anything.

New way to control Pellet Hop gunk!

yes those pictures look about right!! I have never seen that much movement in my hop bag. How much hop material ended up in the kettle when you were done? Couldn't agree more about Chad, amazing how pleasant it is to work with someone who cares.

    Grain Storage Options

Agreed but not always air tight, have had mice chew through and got very tired of stacking and unstacking. Always seemed the grain I wanted was on the bottom. Just my thoughts.

    Grain Storage Options

Sorry vittles vault the only way to go. Make sure they have the o-ring around the lid. Becomes air tight!!! Can be stored where ever for how ever long. Animals can't get in, even the small furry kind we all like to kill. Any bugs in the grain, yes there are bugs in it, die because of lack of...

    Sabco false bottom

I don't remember the size but I added a couple of Acorn nuts onto the legs. Then repeatedly put the screen in and out adjusting the nuts until I couldn't push the screen down. Have had 33lbs of grain on mine without a problem since then. http://cloudfront.zorotools.com/product/full/1XA10_AS01.JPG

Tips for removing a stubborn Sanke spear?

Look on line at a spear removal tool. Then grind one of your broken screw drivers to look like that. Grind slowly don't heat it up until it is red. Keep bucket of water close and soak it to cool down often. Once done the end should look kinda like 1/2 of a U. Don't make the tip sharp just...

    First Kit

Looks like you will have everything you need to start except bottles and capper :( Kits are a great starting point. They get you enough stuff to create home brew and let you decide where you want to go from there. I know allot of brewers that never leave the extract stage which is what you have...

New way to control Pellet Hop gunk!

Looked like probably better as I saw the wort and hops moving though-out the whole boil. When I used a hops bag I never saw the hops moving in it. Will post back when if finishes fermentation and carbonation. :)

New way to control Pellet Hop gunk!

Ok got mine about two weeks ago, supprised at how fast it was. Got to try it this weekend. Did an imperial IPA. 7oz of hops l8r saw water moving through it throughout the boil and it didn't hold back water when moving wort to fermentor. Call is zero hops in the boil kettle. It had some gunk in...

Yeast starter - should I pitch entire thing or just yeast sediment?

If brewing today decant leaving a little liquid behind swish and pitch. If brewing tomorrow set if fridge overnight decant in morning and leave out to warm to temp, swish and pitch. If brewing after that make another starter decant this pitch into new starter then follow above.

    cleaning silicone lines

Rinse well. Run a 10-15 min cycle of onestep through at 150F. Rinse and drain. Every 4 or 5th batch use pbw or acid #5 depending on build up. If rust or heavy build up use acid #5 else pbw. Same temp and process. Do use a plate chiller and it gets same cycle as others, main thing on plate...

    Simplest (?) Keggle Cutting Jig

The best secret I have found that I don't hear mentioned when cutting these. MAKE multiple passes. First pass just etch it. Second a little deeper... Saves disks and energy.. cutting to deep per pass will brake a disk every time.

    Harbor Freight Variable Speed Drill

Been using the low speed drill mentioned above for a year now to do 18+lbs of grain per weekend for me and my friends... Have burnt out the little ones more than once. Bought the big one and never looked back:)

Torrified wheat vs malted wheat..what's the difference?

Responding as your header reads, your actual post says malted twice:) They are very similar profiles, to me the torrified has less malt character and more head retention characteristics. Malted wheat as being it is malted seems to add a little more color and malt flavor. Hope this helps. Others...

    BrewingAlarm for iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad

Ok seems to have trouble parsing files with “ ” ’ –. I understand that strictly speaking these are not XML valid codes but are widely used in HTML. Beersmith and others are using HTML interfaces so are using these escape chars in there xml. It is your call if you want to...
