    Canadian Beer

Heading over to canada for the weekend and was planning on stopping at the Beer Store to bring some back. Any suggestions on good brands that I should go after? I found Duty Free shops to not carry that good of a selection...Although I could be wrong, its been awhile since I've been.

    Maredsous Dubbel

Anyone tried Maredsous Dubbel? Tried it last week at the Empire State Brewing and Music Festival. I loved this beer. Probably the best beer at the festival in IMO. I tried the Blonde too, but the Dubbel (I think the server called it Bruin) was fantastic!

    Barley Crusher Cleaning Question

I got my barley crusher a couple of weeks back and used it for the first time two weeks ago. Great product! I love it. I had read that cleaning it should be done with compressed air. I don't have that option so I had rinsed with water and then towel dried the parts. It seems I didn't dry good...

    Tennent's Lager

Holy hell was this beer bad!! I tried this last night. The smell after I popped the cap was instant skunk. Had no real taste to speak of. I will say that the taste wasn't laced with skunkiness which usually accompanies that smell. Anyone have this beer and thought differently? I'm wondering...

Plastic Fermenter Use (Beer and Wine)?

I have been thinking of trying to make a batch of wine, probably start with a kit like I did when I started brewing. I was in the LHBS the other day and was asking some general questions. I was told that I could not use my current plastic fermenter since I have made beer in it and I would have...

    Gluten Free Brewing Observations

I brewed up a Gluten-Free beer over the weekend and thought I would share some of the differences I noticed while brewing it. It was an extract recipe as I used the Sorghum Malt Syrup from Northern Brewer. I brewed this for a friend of mine who is gluten intolerant. - The malt syrup was...

    Crushed Grain Storage

I ordered some specialty malts from online to make the Fuller's clone for my buddy that my LHBS did not have. I don't have a crusher so I had to ask for them to be crushed. The recipe calls for less than what I ordered (ie - 1/4 .lb and I bought 1/2 .lb). If I vacuum seal the leftovers with one...

Two PM Batches in One Day

Last Saturday I sucessfull brewed two PM batches, a Mint Chocolate Stout and a Winter Spiced Ale. Long day, but totally worth it. I overshot my OG on the Stout by 0.005 and the mash temp by 2 degrees. I undershot the OG on the winter spiced ale by 0.006 but the mash temp was right on. Not too...

    Pumpkin Scorching?

This may have been asked, but didn't see it. Should I be worried about the pumpkin scorching when adding it to the boil? I am going to use the canned and bake it for an hour at 350. When I add it to the kettle, will it scorch? I'm assuming its so dense that it would sink to the bottom right...

    Confusing Primary Activity

So I bought a extract kit over the weekend because I had the itch to make some beer. It was a lawnmower beer kit. I made the beer on Sunday, as usual and re-hydrated the yeast according to plan. After 25 minutes the re-hydrated yeast had a nice head of foam on it and the had that nice bready...

Can a styrofoam container of sorts be used to maintain temp for mashing? I have to keep adjusting the flame (on, low, off, etc.) to maintain the temp with a thermometer probe. Right now I do partial mashing with some grains and was wondering if I could get the brewpot to the the temp I want and...
