Heading to Syracuse soon, any brewpubs to recommend?

It was mentioned in earlier posts, but J Ryan's has a great selection. Not as crowded nor as pricey. Everyday they have different $2 or $2.50 specials of drafts.

    Upstate NY road trip

Cortland Beer Co is in Cortland a few miles North of Ithaca. Empire Brewing in Syracuse has great food and okay beer. Syracuse does have two good beer bars The Blue Tusk and J. Ryans. The Blue Tusk is on the list of places to have a beer in before you die list... FX Matt's Brewery in...

    Thinking about an apple bock

Did you peel the apples? When you say washed, just rinsing in water? I am thinking of adding apples to a porter this fall when the apples are in season here in NY. I was thinking of adding a blend of different apple types. Another question, for the wheat how many or pounds of apples did you use...

    Canadian Beer

Heading over to canada for the weekend and was planning on stopping at the Beer Store to bring some back. Any suggestions on good brands that I should go after? I found Duty Free shops to not carry that good of a selection...Although I could be wrong, its been awhile since I've been.

Worst Commercial Beer You've Ever Had?

For the most part I choke down bad beer even if its really nasty. But Wells Banana Bread Beer, Saison Dupont and a Mango Weizen (by Trade Winds, was it?) got dumped. The Saison Dupont I suspect was a bad bottle. I have read good things about it, but the one I had was awful sour...

    Brewing with newborns

The amount of brewing definitely went down for me when my wife and I had our first child last year. I normally would brew about once a month but since the birth, I've only brewed 4 times and its been 15 months. The best advice is to ask your wife to watch the child the entire time you brew...

    The Dark Tower/The Gunslinger

According to IMDB, the actor that played Father Callahan died in 2001. Guess he's not going to reprise his role... Another great short story, 'Sorry, Right Number'

    The Dark Tower/The Gunslinger

Shawshank Redemption was well done, I'll agree. But it seems most change items from the story then I end up hating it. I liked the Mist movie, but actually prefer the open-ended ending in the book. Dreamcatcher, what a horrible interpretation of the book to movie...Terrible.

    The Dark Tower/The Gunslinger

The Dark Tower was a very good series and I was very satisfied with the ending. It was the only way to end it given the vast number of DT fans who loved the story of Roland's quest. I always thought Book III (The Wastelands) was the best. Wizards and Glass was a good book, but kinda sidetracked...

    Is sour the new Hoppy?

I have tried a couple of sours and they are nice from time to time. I wouldn't want everyday, but they are a nice change of pace. I really liked Ommegang's Zuur.

How to scrub out yeast from inside bottles

Thanks, Fat Drac is awesome. I meant Father-in-law. I was just shortening it for typing it in but now that I read it as effin law, kinda funny.

How to scrub out yeast from inside bottles

I found bottles in the garage from a year ago. Got them from F-in-law and they were from Germany. Caked with crap in the bottom. I seriously contemplated throwing them away. Instead I tired bleach. A little in each bottle plus warm tap water. Let them sit for 2 days, b/c I didn't get back to...
