How long can hops last in the freezer and be good?

A friend who used to brew a lot, but then stopped, sold me his carboys and gave me a bunch of other random stuff, including years old frozen hops from his freezer. They're all pellets and discs. How long can hops last in the freezer?

Need advice on thermometers for Rubbermaid 10 gallon coolers

Hi, I'm fairly new to all-grain. I have 10 gallon Rubbermaid coolers for my MLT and HLT. I'd like to add thermometers, so I don't have to open the lids to check temp. Lost some yeast, fermentation very slow. Any advice?

This bourbon barrel--well, bourbon-soaked oak cubes--porter was our first use of White Labs liquid yeast (WLP028-Edinburgh Ale). We almost always use Wyeast smack packs. Bwa-Hah! brewing in Chicagoland

My name is Aaron, and I brew with my friends Brandon and Heath. Bwa-Hah! is an anagram of our initials, and is unfortunately an overused internet affectation of sinister laughter right now. Bad timing. I got started with Mr. Beer, but now we brew 5 gallon extract batches, and we like to...

Fruit in beer - to puree or not to puree?

My brew buddies and I are fermenting a chocolate cherry stout. We're about to add 5 pounds of Oregon canned tart cherries to the secondary. While I've found a lot of information on fresh fruit versus frozen, and fruit extract vs real fruit, I've not been able to find reasons why it would be...
