    86% attenuation??? ...let's hear it for Denny's Favorite 50

I am not sure if my IS has adequately attenuated. OG was1.090. After 2 weeks in primary it stopped at 1.020. Am I correct in calculating attenuation of 77%? If so, should I call it a day and let it it sit in my secondary for a few months? In the past, I have used 1056 and it has got my...

    Speidel Plastic Tanks

Good point about marking the Speidel. I recently purchased a 60L and used it for the first time yesterday. I was surprised to find no graduation markings on the outside of the tank. It wouldn't have been too difficult for the manufacturers to do and would be a nice addition to the fermenter...

How long can one keep beer in secondary?

I had an Imperial Stout in secondary at 68 degrees for 9 months. It was the best beer I have ever made and one of the best I've ever tasted. I entered it into a competition on St. Patricks day and won best of show. So like they said, depends on the beer. I have a question for the forum: I...

    Counter Pressure Bottle Filler

This is embarrassing but I will tell it anyway. I purchased a Braukhunst CP bottle filler over ten years ago (probably 15) and never used it until two days ago. I would always fill a growler straight from the tap to take on the road. Please let me know if I am inept or if this thing is crap...

    Smoked pumpkin porter

I too just smoked 3 pie pumpkins over apple wood. I was thinking of brewing a standard pumpkin ale with them (only smoky). However, I like the sound of a smoked pumpkin porter. pmkealiher, how did yours turn out? Should I use an american ale yeast or an English yeast suited for a Porter...

    Elevated Mash Tun

Where can you get a pump for $35. They are only dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. I hang thousands of pounds of steel above people's heads for a living. Everything I am using is rated for about 10 times the weight I'm dealing with.

    Elevated Mash Tun

It is an old stove with all 4 burners close enough so that all 4 can fire up under the kettle. So far, no mishaps. I have 4 or 5 batches under my belt with this rig. Also, I did get everything from harbor freight except one pulley which I had to get from a local industrial rigging/lift company.

    Elevated Mash Tun

Here is the latest addition to my all grain endeavors. I have a winch through a couple pulleys that elevates the tun so I can drain it directly into the brew kettle. Once the first runnings empty, I lower it, add the sparge, crank it up again and drain into the kettle. The second pic shows...
