    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'm going to do an Oatmeal stout this weekend. Get some flaked Oats and flaked Barley in there, Use Maris Otter as the base and then break out some Old Sonoma yeast.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'm going to brew up an English IPA. Not a true English IPA...but something unique. Going with Maris Otter, Victory and Special Roast and then I have the aroma and flavor hops coming from Mosaic. The thought process is that the biscuit/toast of the malt and the stone fruit/blueberry of the...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Well, luckily, I have options this weekend. I have a buddy that I am collaborating with on a Wheat IPA. If he is able to get his shipment in from Austin Homebrew...we may do it this weekend. If not, then I may do an American Amber (actually, It's a beer right on the border of Pale Ale and...

    Calypso hops?

Okay...tried my first one of these this evening. Sinfully good Belgian. The taste of apple is moreso than pear...I think the pear comes along later on the palate. This is a delicious beer. Here's the recipe I created for the Calypso hopped Belgian. I named it Angus Dei...Lamb of God...

    Calypso hops?

I put it in a Belgian Pale Ale that I brewed on 10/6. I bottled on 10/27. I used this as a flavor/aroma addition. My ABV is 5.6% so i may try the first one about the 12/8 or 12/15 weekend.

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Actually, I disagree with Mike. I've beenbrewing with Mr. Beer for quite a while. While I agree that you could risk contamination, to do so you'd really have to abuse the opening of the fermenter and the conditions you have the LBK (Little Brown Keg) in. If you did open it to perv on the beer...

    Fall/Winter Beer Ideas???

Well, for the winter - I have just finished my first Christmas beer. A small adaptation as this one is a lighter color (SRM), but still nice and strong. Also, I think one of the most beers for the season is an Oatmeal Stout. All that thickness and roastiness and velevet taste is essential...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'm probably not brewing this coming weekend, so instead I have nice Oatmeal Stout to brew tonight when I get home from work. The hope is to get this brewed tonight, ferment until 11/5...11/7 and then bottle. If I'm lucky I'll be able to have this ready for Christmas. That way I will be able...

    New Beer thought

So, I was putzing around trying to waste time at work and think up beer recipes. That's one of my favorite things to do in between projects. Anyways, I run through the BJCP and see Cream Ale. "Hmm...what can we do there?" And then I run across and article about the Black IPA craze. Put 2...

    You still buy Beer

I have a huge lot (say 8 to 12 cases full) down in my basement. But there are still 2 that I really go out for -- Newcastle Werewolf and SVYTURYS Ekstra...I'd go across state line if need be to get Svyturs

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Bonzo~ I made a Saison using Orange-Blossom Honey. One of the best recipes I have done. I saved it on Hopville. Would you care for it? It's a Mr. Beer sized batch and you can get all of the ingredient off of any online homebrew website...you don't "need" an LHBS.

    My 1st Belgian

Okay guys...good morning! I've been homebrewing for a little over 1 year. This weekend will be my very first attempt at a Belgian. Well, I did a Saison that turned out great. But I want to take a shot at a Belgian Pale. Please give this recipe a look and I would GREATLY appreciate any...

    Christmas Beer

Mjb~ Yeah. Like I said, I have a ton of Barleywines and IPAs. So this one is relatively light all the way around - ABV (6.3% estimate) and SRM (8 estimate). I wanted to concentrate on the spices as that is not in my normal "wheelhouse" in brewing. I looked on Hopville at about 7-to-10...

    Christmas Beer

mjb~ I had a similar thought. But when I did mine, I went Cinnamon, nutmeg and Almond. Definitely not a fan of clove at all. I brewed mine up on 09/22/2012 and should be bottling it somewhere along the week of October 11-ish. A majority of the stuff I saw reflected the use of an English...

    Hobby or Job?

This is only a hobby for me. I have no interest in it being a job. I don't have the attention span nor the attention to detail to have it be a job where other people rely on me. I am keen on details like santation...but if my recipe calls for 3 Lb of extract and I put in 2.98Lb or 3.06Lb I...

first taste of my own recipe

I did a recipe that was only about a 2.3 gallon batch. I went overboard and added a 3Lb can of Blackberry Puree. THAT was too much. I can still taste the beer...but it's the consistency of a smoothie moreso than a beer. Fark!

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

I like Mr. Beer. Been brewing since June 2011. Although I do have a couple of 5-gallon buckets and, in fact, just bottled a 4.5 gallon batch yesterday evening. But I like the 2 gallon Mr. Beer batches from the stand point that it fills about 22 bottles of 12 oz beer. I have 4 Mr. Beer...
