What Beer Turned You on to Craft Beer?

Not sure if there was a specific beer, honestly. I spent 6 months in Cambridge, England in 1989-90. We frequented a number of pubs during my time there, in particular a small, unassuming place called The Grapes... Six months of good English brew and a month traveling the continent... beer was...

I'm in! Need more grain to justify the 75 year supply of rice hulls from the last buy! Actually, a busier than usual summer squashed my brewvailabity and has me over stockpiled... Catch up plans in progress...

    Rogue IT manager ad

As ridiculous as it is, I think it's a hilarious posting. I think it cuts through the bs. Doesn't sound like they're looking for a seasoned professional here. Probably just want some high motor new grad (or maybe not even) with some tech skills who would think it cool to work at/with a brewery...

    Beer gas around Chicago/NW IN?

Yeah... I read your post and instantly thought of Hagberg, but double checking their site now, there's actually no mention of Nitrogen, so I may have steered you wrong. Worth checking, however. They may know of a source if they're not one.

I'd put all my grains in storage almost immediately but held off on the rice hulls until today. Not sure how you guys managed to split the 50# in two, but I had no damn idea how to break the 25# down in half. Talk about herding cats! You haven't seen hilarious until you've seen someone...

I'm happy to report that I've got all my Star San hand soap dispensers filled and strategically placed throughout the house after collecting my gallon jug (and the rest of my supplies) from Neopol earlier today. :) These grain buys are great on so many levels. Glad to be able to participate...

    Congratulations - it's a baby... hop!

    Crushed or Milled?

Always assumed it was semantics, though I won't be crushed (or milled) to learn that I'm mistaken...

Do I need to keep a log,

Bottling into cold bottles helps reduce foaming during the filling process. I don't usually bother when I actually bottle (infrequent), but its not a bad idea.

Also, sounds like you did everything correctly... Good luck!

Any first time hop growers in Northeast?

Give it time. They're either going to "take" or not at this point. I planted 8 varieties three years ago - the first broke thru after 5 days, but others took more than 3 weeks. Let it grow.

    Beerflights at Target?!?

FYI - the base diameter is right at 2"... maybe 1 15/16th. I bought a couple sets for kicks and to share, and found that one of the glasses was too big for the holes in that paddle. Was going to return it, but on a whim I checked a different paddle and it fit. Quality control definitely an...

    Good Start to growing season

If I remember correctly, which is a bit of a crap shoot to be honest, a vine uses its arms or offshoots or whatever to climb. A bine twists itself to climb. That's why you train the bine. Something like that, eh?

My $0.02... There seemed to be a lot of emphasis on stocking up grains. There also seemed to be a fair amount of excitement about the overall size of the order. Perhaps a few folks got over extended and couldn't back themselves out when all was said and done. Hell, for all we know, some one's...
