    Pros and cons of "fast ferment" ?

    How much liquid malt to make 5 gallons ? ( metric please !! )

    I wanna make a batch of beer, 23L ( 5 gallons ) ...how much liquid malt would i need to buy ? I live in Canada, so no one here will sell things in "pounds" , so anyone have an idea how many kilograms ?? I am lazy, but could convert from pounds to kilos, if necessary....

    Yeast doesnt seem to want to cooperate :(

    Hi guys, Last sunday I boiled some wort/hops and cooled it off very fast , by pouring it directly on 2 X 4L ice cubes of distilled water. I added enough distilled water to bring the total volume up to 23 L. ( 5 gallons ) The wort temp dropped down to 12 C degrees . ( 54 F ) right away. I...

    Can homebrew ever equal microbrew quality ?

    I love microbrew beer, and the challenge to to equal or best it, in terms of taste, quality. Using only simple plastic fermenters, basic equipment...is it possible to succeed ?? 99 % of all homebrew I've tried never quite beats microbrew, imo.

    An IPA success story ! :)

    I wanted to thank everyone for advice given on my post about bottling and racking to the secondary. I did my IPA and used the advice of Revvy for bottling . Skipped the secondary totally. The IPA sat for only a week and a half in 48 / 500 mls Ez-cap bottles. I couldn't wait to try it...

    Any disadvantage to NOT transferring to a secondary ?

    I'd like to leave my fermented wort in the primary.... I know that any mixing and air addition, when transferring to a secondary, will oxidize the beer and affect the flavor in a bad way. The downside is I'll be stuck with a thick layer of yeast/hop junk on the bottom, and I also need to add...
