    New lhbs in Scottdale, pa.

Whoa. That's wild. I was JUST talking to a guy who lives in an apartment I'm moving into in Scottdale who told me this, then I forgot the name of the place and googled it and found this post. Fantastic news. I hate going to Monroeville.

    A few Pumkin Ale Qs

Good luck, let us know how it goes. I was thrilled with mine. Great feeling when other people tried it and their faces lit up.

Kits or Recipes for a Beginner?

I started with kits.. Then started modifying the kits a little bit.. Then downloaded brew target, picked a style, and randomly added ingredients til it met style. After experimenting that way, you still wind up with some decent to good beer and learn what different ingredients do.

    A few Pumkin Ale Qs

I threw 4 lbs of canned pumpkin into the boil, 1 tbsp nutmeg and 1 tbsp cinnamon, as well as 1 lbs of the canned pumpkin pie mix in the boil for 5 minutes at the end. Straight out of the can. The pumpkin flavor was there but not overpowering, and the extra spices in the pumpkin pie mix and the...

    This is just great!

I use BrewTarget to come up with my recipes. Kits taught me the basics. I'd follow along with the kit and the software and see what worked. Only did it for two brews. I now come up with my own recipes, which I am improving and perfecting through trial and error. It affords me a lot of...

Midwest pumpkin ale brewing right noe

I've got the same kit (modified slightly) in secondary now. I didn't steep the pumpkin, just threw it right in. Going to create an incredible flavor... Just wish I would've not been a moron and added enough water when I racked to primary... I went from 5 gal to about 3 because I...

    Successful Brew This Weekend

Possibly both borderline sexist and hilarious. Not touching either with a ten foot pole. I like beer.

    Fruit Beer Question...

Probably adding 5-6 lbs. What kind of bag do you reccommend? I was planning on filtering when I bottled or reracking to a tertiary... but this seems like a much more convenient option...

    Siphoning Help Please

 :drunk: Eh... Doesn't sound like it. Unless food = garbage? Anyone?

    Dont brew drunk!!!!

I really prefer to be drinking before, during, and after. That is, until I eventually burn myself or something. It just makes it more fun. Granted, I don't get plowed while I'm working, because I'm too busy watching for boil-overs, keeping an eye on timers, etc..

    Fruit Beer Question...

Simple question, looking for simple opinions. I know there are a bunch of ways to do this. Brewing a blueberry porter. Going to add blueberrys (frozen then thawed to room temp) in secondary. I've read a few places that say temperature needs to be controlled a great deal, other places...

    Pumpkin ale fail

Someone else on the forum gave me this tip -- use a spray bottle (water) to push back the foam/boil over. Not sure how a boil over will affect your product, depends how much was lost, I guess. I'm too new to answer that, but i'm sure someone can chime in. I'm going to put my pumpkin ale...

    extract pumpkin ale

I mentioned this in another thread... Oddly enough, on my brew day, I threw in 45 OZ of canned pumpkin, without roasting it or anything, in addition to the pumpkin spices... Pumpkin went in with 5 minutes left in the boil, spices went in the final minute. When I moved it to primary, there was...

    Kickoff party tonight!

Good luck. You will be completely consumed with this by the end of your first boil. In three weeks, I've got one bottled already, one in primary, and two more coming, both of which I'm tweaking the recipes and/or just making my own up with... RDWHAHB -- Beer is hard to mess up if you're...

    Pumpkin Ale

I brewed my pumpkin ale on Tuesday. I used about 45oz of canned pumpkin direct in the boil. I had VERY little in terms of chunks, etc. carry over into my primary. That's not to say there's not a lot of pulp. Was fermenting at a pretty good pace from shortly after I placed it into the...
