    Help Troubleshooting Honeywell Furnace Valve

I made a direct fired brutus style brew stand using the honeywell furnace valves. So far. The system seems to work but I am having a hard time troubleshooting the honeywell furnace valves. I'm supplying them with 10.5" wc propane. I finally got the pilot lights adjusted so they are about half...

LP Propane Manifold for Honeywell Valves

Like many people here I am building a propane RIMS system where the propane is controlled with the Honeywell valves. I am trying to figure out the propane line. I will have one high pressure burner and one low pressure burner. Here's what I'm thinking: Propane tank '--> HP regulator '--> T...

Need Help with Low Pressure Propane Plumbing

I'm working on a brew stand that will be very similar to some of the Brutus 10 builds out there that use the Honeywell Furnace valve. I'd like to go high pressure to a gas manifold built from black pipe and then have low pressure regulators on the HLT and MLT. When I was looking at various...

    PID Controller for Brew Stand

When would you want to use the second of your 3 examples? I think I will end up using the 3rd example, as I want to have Auto, Manual, and off (for cleaning mostly). I guess what I will end up with is essentially a gas powered RIMS.

    PID Controller for Brew Stand

This one? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00X73GX6C/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 Maybe I'm not understanding the specs, but it says it's SSR control ready. Doesn't that mean I need to add an SSR to it? If so, people have frequently bought this one with it...

    PID Controller for Brew Stand

The transformer is to step down the voltage to 24V for the honeywell gas solenoids. I'm using the northern brewer pumps because they were cheaper than the chugger pumps at the time. They run off of a laptop adaptor which feeds them DC power. However, the input to the laptop power adaptors is AC.

Anyone use the Inkbird ITC-106VH yet?

Which of the Inkbird 106 models is comparable to this Auber Instruments one? I also like Inkbird and would like to replace this PID controller with one of theirs. But Im too stupid to decipher all of the specs and find which one is comparable...

    PID Controller for Brew Stand

Doing some planning for a brew stand, and I'm working on building a BOM for the electrical parts of it. I'm planning on doing a brutus-style system similar to this one: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=172927 He recommends this temperature controller...

    Mash/Sparge Volumes for big beer

I'm going to be making a big imperial stout (~12.5% abv) soon, and I'm having a tough time with my water calculations. I use Beersmith for my recipe formulation, and I have the following criteria for this batch: Recipe size: 6 gallons lbs of grain: 24.375 Boil length: 120 minutes Mash tun...

How to make a perfect English Pale Ale

One of my favorite styles of beer is and has always been English pale ale. Whether it's Fuller's London Pride, Greene King Abbot Ale, or Wychwood, there's just something special about those beers. Then there's the American versions of these beers. Take Firestone Walker's DBA, for example...

Having trouble with brewing water calculations

Wow, thank you for the in depth information here. Based on what you have said I have a few more questions. When you say that the approximation for bicarbonates falls apart around 8 pH, is that my base water pH or the pH of my mash? I have noticed that I'm coming up short on my original gravity...

Having trouble with brewing water calculations

I am also wondering what calcium hardness means. Is this referring to the levels of CaCO3?

Having trouble with brewing water calculations

Today I finally got more detailed information about my water, but I'm having a difficult time with the calcium and magnesium calculations. Calcium - Calcium hardness = 45 - 52 ppm Magnesium = Not tested for, very low concentration Sulphates = 40 – 42 ppm Sodium = 12 – 15 ppm...

    Missed Mash Temperature

I used BeerSmith to calculate, and I was thinking that by heating my water up past the strike temperature, I'd be able to preheat the mash tun too. What if I heated the water for my mash and for the sparge (~8 GAL) to 180 degrees, preheated the mash tun with it, then emptied off the excess water...

    Missed Mash Temperature

Whelp, I did my first all grain batch last weekend, and I have to say it wasn't as difficult as I figured it would be. The only thing I really struggled with was the water temperature. Here's what happened: I heated 4 gallons of water to 175-180 degrees I put 3.5 gallons of this water into...
