    Plastic bucket HLT?

Hi guys, I'm in need of a HLT and before buying an aluminium or stainless steel kettle online I was wondering if it's ok to turn a plastic bucket like this one into a HLT? I already have a valve so I would only have to drill a hole at the bottom of the bucket but I'm worried about health...

Suitable refrigerators to transform into kegerator?

I came across a few blog posts online about the transformation of a compact fridge into a kegerator. Problem is most of them had fridges that are now discontinued, like this one : http://www.thegatesofdawn.ca/wordpress/homebrewing/kegerator/ I'm now looking for an alternative choice and I think...

1-1/4" SS nut for my kettle element??

What'S NPS and OD? I remember measuring the diameter of the element's base and it was 1-1/4" so I guess the diameter of the inside of the nut must be 1-1/4 as well right?

1-1/4" SS nut for my kettle element??

These seem to be 1/2, 1/4 and 1". I'd be looking for a 1-1/4 one.

1-1/4" SS nut for my kettle element??

Wasn't sure if I should post it in the Electric board... Anyways, I bought an element at Canadian Tire that sort of looks like this : My plan was to buy a 1-1/4" SS nut to weld on my kettle so I could screw/unscrew the element in case it breaks or to wash it. Problem is... I can't find...

    Infected bottles?

So I brewed a porter a few months ago and cracked open a 500 ml bottled last night. To my surprise, I lost most of it in the sink since it kept foaming out of the bottle. My friend, who brewed with me, had the same thing happen to him with one of his bottle and he told me it had a sour taste...

SMaSH with Nugget hops, unnoticeable flavor/aroma?

I brewed a 2 gal BIAB SMaSH (Belgian pale malt + Nugget) 3 weeks ago and bottled today. This is my 3rd brew and as the other 2 the hops are barely noticeable. I used .15 oz of Nugget at 60 mins .25 oz of Nugget at 25 mins and .45 oz of Nugget at 0 min This time the boil seemed to be...

    Ideas for basic beer recipes

Did you only use LME? If so, I would add some speciality grain as well, something like Crystal Malt

Long Time Beer Lover new to the game

Is it a 1800 watts induction cooker Cause that's why I use as well. you wouldn't be able to brew 5 gallons batches with it, but 2.5 gallons is perfectly fine i f you don't mind. I'v been having some trouble bringing my wort to a rolling boil so I'm looking forward to add a heating stick as well...

    BIAB Mash Out

Not sure what your setup is and what you're trying to attempt, but couldn't you simply add all of your water volume at the beginning then simply raise the temperature?

Can't get a vigourous boil with my 2.5 gallons BIAB setup

Yeah next brew I'll ask my LHBS to crush the grain finer (is this even a word?). I got around 33% efficiency with my first brew but I didn't use a proper bag. Now with my 2nd I got 58% efficiency, which is a lot better but i was aiming for 65-70%. I bought the Burton 1800w cooker as well. I...

Can't get a vigourous boil with my 2.5 gallons BIAB setup

We tried to put the pot on two burners, but the boil was even weaker. It worked best over only 1. I guess a heatstick inside the kettle while boiling over the stove would be the best thing.

Can't get a vigourous boil with my 2.5 gallons BIAB setup

Damn, I guess I'd have to go with a heatstick. Not sure how the thing would work with a induction cooker running. Would a single 110V stick boil the wort enough without the need to use the induction cooker or the stove?

Can't get a vigourous boil with my 2.5 gallons BIAB setup

I brewed my second BIAB beer 2 days ago and I still can't get my wort to boil vigorously at all. This, in addition to my efficiency problem, leads to my OG to be way below. I was supposed to hit 1.058 but I hit 1.050. (I took a reading after the mash and it was supposed to hit 1.046 while I...
