I was also considering boiling it for a couple minutes or so and cooling/ pitching.

    Dead yeast

Guess my dear, sweet wife had enough with my supplies laying around so she put it all in the garage. It was likely 3-4 hours before I got home to find my yeast in the Houston heat. I went ahead and made my starter... No good. I brewed Sunday, brew shop is closed today. Will my wort be okay if I...

You know you're a home brewer when?

In the garage. NBA Finals. 5 taps. 2 friends. 1/4 full water bottle (contents actually tequila) in front of a fan "jiggling". First thought... RED NECK STIR PLATE!

Done! I called the ac/ refrigeration guy for my restaurant( I'm a chef) $30 and I made him lunch. Refrigeration line is repaired and full of freon... Buddies came over and we enjoyed the inaugural pour. Now time to take in the next steps.

    Son of a....

I spent all last week cleaning out a freezer I was given (15cuft!), built a collar and tap handles which I stained and poly'd, and bought my external thermostat. I transferred all of the hardware off of my existing fridge and all that was left to attach the lid, move into place, plug in, add...

    Local Beer is Better Beer

Nothing is more local than my keezer! That said, supporting locals with QUALITY PRODUCT is great.

What I did for beer today

I had a hard plastic/ rubber coated miller lite keg a buddy gave me a month or so ago. With an oscillating saw and a half hour of determination I got the cover off to find that it is basically a base-less, handle-less ALUMINUM keg with a rounded top and bottom. With some "aftermarket" handles...

You know you're a home brewer when?

When the first thing you do each morning, prior to getting out of bed, is grab your phone, check your email to see the replies to this thread and start your day knowing you'll come home to beer on tap!

    Reuse of steeping grains?

I have a stretch of wood with wild hogs here in Texas. We throw it out the morning after brew night and sit that night with bows in hand! Oink oink

You know you're a home brewer when?

You try to use your beer equipment names as euphemisms to get your wife "in the mood!"..."let me mash in your lauter tun until it's time to sparge" "no, that's not my hydrometer in my pocket, I'm just happy to see you"... Can I transfer to secondary yet?!...

    Help identifying keg type?

I had one of those and the same problem. Since I was converting to a brew pot I took a 1/8" drill bit and depressurized it by just drilling into the top. Then I got out the grinder and went to work. The keg was empty so there was very little pressure released.

    Muddy Belgian Strong

Thanks for the advice! The calendar has worked so far but I like your reasoning. I'm a chef and people often ask " how long does it take to cook _____" I always answer "until it's done!" I guess the same applies here!

    Muddy Belgian Strong

It was still a little sweet, I bumped up the temp on the fermenter and it has kicked the yeast back into action. Btw.. Wyeast 1388

    Muddy Belgian Strong

2 weeks ago I made my first attempt at a Belgian strong. I had my first ever stuck sparge as one of the fittings on my manifold came loose and it filled with grain. I transferred everything out of the mash tun, cleaned it out and put the grain back in. I let it sit for an extra 20 minutes to...

    Partygyle pumpkin porter

So my wife got fired a couple weeks ago and my homebrew budget was slashed, (Obama should take note!) This got me thinking economic beer brewing. I really wanted a Pumpkin Porter for Turkey Day and it is now brewed! I then got the Partygyle started in the form of an intended Black IPA from...
