    Ph levels

@Speed Yellow...if you ever run a sugar wash through a still you would know exactly what I'm talking about!:) I have done a bit of research and found that yeast prefer a 4.5+- ph. I just brewed a batch over the weekend and with my ph test strips found that the ph was approximately 4.5-5.0 into...

    Ph levels

Ok sorry about that, I make sugar washes as well and was having a PH issue with the primary. That led me to do some research and I found yeast work best at 4-4.5 ph level. I am not talking about mash ph. I'm talking about what is in your primary. So I started thinking about how a beer wort...

    Ph levels

Thanks Mason, I would like to do some experimenting as well. With my other hobby I can add lemon to drop the PH and it won't come through, but with beer I would expect that I could taste it. I can also use baking soda, citric acid or lactic acid. Would we be able to taste any of this in small...

    Ph levels

I have ben doing some reading about what PH level should be and it seems like the yeast are most happy at a 4.5ph. So I was wondering if I check it first thing going into primary and it's to high what would you recommend I use to lower the PH with out adding any type of off flavor to the beer...

    My Garage conversion to brewery

This is the IPA being dry hopped in secondary. The one gallon I dry hopped with Chinook and Falconers Flight. I put one ounce of hops in the 5 gallon so I just kept ratios the same for the one gallon.

    Clogging plate chiller question

I definitely see where my flame out routine needs some help. I generally kill the flame and turn the pump on with the valves open and try to create a whirl pool with the pump. Not going to happen and clogs up my chiller. I think with all the good advice I got from this thread I should be able...

    Clogging plate chiller question

Kombat that is awesome! I'm buying one of those as soon as I got a couple extra bucks. Thanks! I was thinking of how I would attach a screen to my pickup tub in my boil kettle as well. 3030 I have a hops spider as well. I need to get those 5 gallon bags and see if they will work with my...

How long does brew day take you?

It takes me a good 6 hrs. I have to connect all my hoses and things like that. 26lbs of grains take a bit to clean out as well.

    Clogging plate chiller question

Thanks Crankyx, I was contemplating selling it and using a big emersion chiller. I figured I would try a few more things before I do that. What whirl pool attachment do you have?

    Clogging plate chiller question

Also a false bottom in the boil kettle was mentioned. Is that some thing a lot of people do? I got a false bottom in my MT but not in my BK.

    Clogging plate chiller question

Question? If I use the paint bags, would there be a maximum number of bags you would want to add to the boil? The reason I ask is because I had 8 hop additions in 60 min boil. It was my IPA. Seems to me the best thing for me to do is figure out a filter setup in the boil kettle. I'm thinking...
