    Yeast Turds?

Never a flame has touched that flask, so doubtful.

    Yeast Turds?

That's kind of what I figured it was. Since it's all being stirred constantly it'd probably stuff that would be sitting at the bottom otherwise.

    Yeast Turds?

So today I made up a starter so I'd have something ready for Sunday and so that I could try out my newfangled stir plate. It's 6 hours later and I'm noticing little black particles floating up toward the top, something I've never seen in any of my previous starters. The starter is same as...

    Flexible Yeast Strains

I know there is probably a simple answer for this question but I'll ask anyways. Inevitably I end up tossing my yeast cakes every time I transfer. The biggest reason reason has been because I've been jumping between styles over the past year - stouts, belgiums, a lager and some heffes. I took a...

How many gallons of EdWort's Apfelwein have been made?

Add 5 more gallons to the total. (2183) I'm brewing a Belgium Saison tomorrow and was browsing through the site when I thought "Apfelwein would be PERFECT for the holidays!!!" I figure I just got it in under the buzzer. Should be doing well come early December.

EdWort's Apfelwein vs. BrewFrick Panty Dropper

Awesome match up. I just put my first batch of Ed's into the carboy this afternoon. Maybe while I'm brewing tomorrow I'll make an additional batch of the panty dropper for my own comparison.

First Time Homebrewer with Fermentation Question

What type of beer are you brewing? What type of yeast? What is the temperature? What's the OG? Answer those first and a more educated response will surely come. My very uneducated response though is that you are fine. You might have it at a higher than desirable temp and/or could be a...

    What to brew next?

I just did a Belgium Wit from AHB that is amazing. Came out much better than my previous Belgium Hefe and is a quick and easy brew for warm weather.

    What is this homebrew called?

You can't go blind by drinking homebrew. It's a myth. Somehow you are confusing the consumption of methyl alcohol which is something so entirely different you'd be better to google and research yourself.

    Belgian Wit questions

I kegged mine a couple of weeks ago and it's already turning into one of my faves. I'll definitely be brewing that again.

    first brew questions

It's fine to secondary in a keg. I do it all the time. Some of my brews I either just keep in primary a bit longer, and then condition in the keg and some I do a "true" secondary, allowing additional trub and sediment to drop out of my beer. In those cases I'd suggest you then transfer to...

My second beer - Wit beer!

just did a wit very similar. i put it through a secondary for a week because i like it to be a bit cleaner before i keg. while my wits have been "quick" beers, i still would give it at least 4 weeks before popping into those.

    newb ? on sanitization

Guess it depends on what you use. I use idophor (sp?) and fill the carboy to the top, add the appropriate amount of sanitizer, let it sit for a few minutes and then air dry. I assume starsan is equally as easy.

    newb ? on sanitization

Some clean foil and do a light spritz of bleach water and leave my utensils there, after they've been sanitized, with another later of foil on top of them in order to keep all dust off.

    Everything's ruined

Yeah, don't toss that batch just yet. I've had both violent blow off and hops in former beers that turned out fine. I'll bet you are fine and nothing got infected. As far as your hops let those settle and possibly do a secondary to clear it out further. Give it a chance.

Ran CO2 through the out stem

That's pretty much what I thought. I was surprised it came off too. I've heard the horror stories.
