    Trub in primary

Thanks Chef! It's been three years and a nasty divorce since I have brewed. Brewing again today. Got a new filter for my funnel that wasn't potato chipped

    Trub in primary

Just finished brewing a BB summer ale last night and have an enormous amount of trub floating in the primary and settled on the bottom. Is this bad? Should I siphon it off to a secondary? The yeast has been pitched and activity has started.

    Meijer Spring Water

Amen brother. I talked to the owner when I was there. They are open but no where near capacity. Give that place a couple more months and it will be home brew supply heaven. The Taylor store is packed in a small floor space. I think it is kind of overwhelming to find stuff. The Jackson store...

    Meijer Spring Water

So then just check the PH. By the way, did you know that adventures in homebrewing is open now on Jackson avenue? The place is huge.

    Meijer Spring Water

That is what I have used for my last two extract brews. I bought it at the Zeeb road meijer. I have six more gallons waiting for my next batch. I have no idea what the chemistry is but it worked fine. OG and FG were exactly what the kits said they would be. I had very active fermentation for both.

    Drilling Metals Primer

RPMs don't mean anything when you know the proper feed rate and can flush with coolant. All drill bits can be resharpened, coatings still help with maintaining a sharp cutting edge even after sharpening through the coating. We reground titanium nitride coated end mills and drills all the time...

    Who's grinding?

    Haha....yeah, I understand. :D

    Who's grinding?

I'm married so I'm completely used to hand crankin' mysel...wait what were we talkin' about? Oh yeah, I really do not need to have a self powered grain mill.

How do you clean a stove after boil over?

I had a boil over during my first brew. It happened right after the first hops addition. My stove is ceramic top. The wort burned and became hard as a lollipop. It was about an eight of an inch thick. I used a razor widget and had the stove clean in about 10 minutes.

How big should my mash tun be?

I was wondering how big a mash tun I would need for ten gallon batches. I want to brew all types of beer.

    Who's grinding?

Yes. The mixer alone is cumbersome. But so is my friends 3/4 horsepower meat grinder.

    Who's grinding?

I have the kitchen aid meat grinder attachment and have ground 30 lbs of deer meat in no time at all. The only complaint is the tray is too small to hold significant quantities for stuffing it in. It only cost 50 bucks. I just don't want to spend 150 bucks for the mill attachment. I don't want...

    Who's grinding?

Bingo!!! That is exactly why I'm asking for opinions. I figure an investment in a mill will lower overall costs by buying bulk. I have a kitchen aid mixer but nearly choked when I saw the cost for the grain mill attachment. I have two general electric 3/4 horse motors with mounts that could...

    Who's grinding?

Considering all the stuff I have read regarding poor efficiency and LHBS's not properly milling grains to the right consistency, I'm wondering what cheap grain mill members are using to mill their own grains. You can buy many hand grind mills for under 50 bucks on eBay. These can be...

    Keggle capacity.

Thanks for the replies and clearing up the confusion.

    Keggle capacity.

I was told that a 1/2 barrel keg holds 7.5 cases of beer. That equates to 16.875 gallons of beer. My calc= 7.5casesx24beers per case=180beers. 180beersx12ozs=2160ozs 2160ozs/128ozs per gallon=16.875 gallons. I see that you would need more space for boil over control tho.

    Keggle capacity.

If a keggle holds 16 gallons, is it possible to do 15 gallon all grain batches? I want to start building a single tier system like the Brutus 10 and hear this system is only good for ten gallon batches. I am a noob and have not tried AG yet.

So how long should it really take?

Tried to find those at lowes but they were only 3 and 5 gallon sizes. If I can find the 6.5 gallon at another hardware,is it ok to use them? Is there honestly any difference in plastic between those buckets and a "food grade" bucket? Buying an ale pail for 22 bucks is a rip off. My LHBS...

So how long should it really take?

I wish I had the equipment for that. I wish I had enough bottles. I can really only have... Wait, two carboys, one bottling bucket, one sanitizing bucket that can't be used as a fermentor anymore due to scratches, 120-16 oz flip tops and 48 crown top bottles. I have to better plan my supply...
