New South Central Pa grain buy

If I still have time to place an order, when would the delivery of the grain be expected? Edit: Looking to brew a Wee Heavy around May 9.

    Be patient or dump it?

UPDATE: I checked the lager this past weekend. I was getting my home brewery in order for a batch of Imperial Stout. So, before I dumped the batch of lager, I took a reading and lo and behold, the beer had dropped to 1.0135. Hmph, go figure. I took a sip and was pleasantly surprised it tasted...

    Be patient or dump it?

I was only kind of half-serious about botulism, but thank you for that helpful info and setting me straight. I was worried I would throw up because it would taste like garbage juice.

    Be patient or dump it?

There are CO2 bubbles on the surface. I tasted the smallest amount possible for fear of botulism, it did not taste sour, but I think the IBU level would keep lacto at bay. It did not smell like garbage, so I may have avoided other -bacters. It all makes me nervous, but I thought I would get some...

    Be patient or dump it?

I just visited the Mangrove website and they say use 2-packets for 6-gallons, but no recommend gravity. If one packet serves no purpose, Why not just sell the proper amount in one packet to begin with? That is just silly.

    Be patient or dump it?

Long story begins now. I won some prizes through the BYO label contest. One of the prizes was two packets of dry yeast from Mangrove Jack. One packet was the US West Coast ale yeast and the other packet was the Bohemian Lager. I decided to brew 11 gallons of a session red IPA with a friend...

Don't mention it, just a small token of appreciation for organizing the buy.

New South Central Pa grain buy

I might be able to help Tuesday at around 5:30. Edit: Crap, wife reminded me of prior commitment. Doh. Sorry, won't be able to help. Edit x2: Well, the wife said she would cover for me, so I can help after all. Is the address the place I sent the check to in Mt. Wolf?

New South Central Pa grain buy

I can't find much info on how this compares to PBW or Oxiclean. I assume it works the same, but would also like to know if it will de-label bottles. At $12.50 for 5 lbs, I would give it a try, so you can count me in for 1 (5 lbs). I will PM my grain order soon as well.

    Blow Off Container Suck Back

Just plain water. I only use sanitizer in airlocks. I figure there is a good chance that something wild (brett) was in that container, what I am worried about is mold/bacteria being able to create off flavors in the beer. I was hoping that the alocohol would prohibit this from happening? Kind...

    Blow Off Container Suck Back

Aye, the temperature change from 85° to 64° caused a vacuum to happen in inside the carboy. I didn't really think that the change in temperature would cause suck back. When I cold crash I always use an s-type airlock to prevent this from happening. I kind of just assumed that the temperature...

    Blow Off Container Suck Back

What is the likelihood of nasties from the blow off container growing in a beer with a final gravity of 1.002? Rookie mistake made by me when I took my 85°F fermenting sour and placed it in my 64°F basement. Entire contents of blow off container ended up in my beer because I forgot to remove the...

Dark gray layer on top of yeast sample

Everything went fine with this batch. It fermented quick and clean. In hindsight, I wish I would have harvested this generation of yeast. I know sometimes things don’t get really good until the 3rd generation, but I basically had written off this yeast and its weird flocculating. Oh well...

    Help with BJCP Category

Thanks for the reply. Technically they are not taking Wood Aged beers, so 22C is not available. I think the Vanilla is more forward, followed by the oak. The bourbon is not really there unless you are sensitive to it. The best of show winner will have their beer made at the brewery, but...

    Help with BJCP Category

I am entering a contest and I am not sure what category to put this beer in: Vanilla Oak Porter (1 Vanilla Bean and 1 oz. Medium Toast French Oak Cubes soaked in Bourbon) Would it be 21A—Spice/Herb/Vegatable Beer or 23A—Specialty Beer? Thanks in advance for your help.

    color change after bottling

I attach my wand to the spigot on the bottling bucket. I always rinse it, then soak it in Oxi after each use. Before I use it again, it goes in the sanitizing bucket for at least 15 minutes (only because I am doing other things). Like I said, my follow up bottling session of my Belgian Blonde...
