    Hot ASS Saison

I used 3711 for my saison twice with great results each time. Highly recommend the French saison yeast. No stuck ferment and sat at 80 degrees in my fermentation chamber for ten days then ambient (70) for three more weeks in primary only. It is the clearest beer I have made to date. Great little...

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

I can attest to this. I fermented way too warm and this beer tastes very cidery. My friend was scolding me for using plastic to ferment (micro scratches!). He thought this beer was infected. I disagree and I'm convinced it was a temp control issue. I have since started fermenting in my old...

    Belgian Slut - Belgian IPA

Hey guys, sorry I have taken so long to post the tasting notes from my silver medal win last fall. I have typed them up below. I just rebrewed this beer to submit to a local brewery for consideration in the GABF pro-am. If they pick my beer from a field of six or sever other local brewers we...

    Undershot my OG!

You could still boost the alcohol content by boiling some DME in water, chilling, and then pitching directly into an active fermentation. Can't say it will do much for the flavor though. Never done it myself but I know it's possible.

    worst beer you ever made

A 10-gallon all-grain batch of american pale ale that started out palatable and slowly devolved into a thin, watery, band-aid, and pepto bismol flavored disaster. Luckily we drank 3 cases before it got really bad and I had to dump the final 20 bottles.

    Founders Breakfast Stout clone questions

The recipe refers to total boil time and count down from 60 to 0 minutes with 60 minutes being the beginning of the boil and 0 minutes being knock out (as soon as 60 minutes have elapsed and you shut off the flame). (60 min) Add nugget (bittering) hops as soon as the boil begins. (30 min)...

    Unusual Help Needed

I wish I had more to go on. I may get more info before they are due in January. Collete is a nice name but I'm afraid we are in central Virginia where Great Divide recently withdrew from. If I get any more clues out of them I will let you guys know.

    Unusual Help Needed

Hello friends, I am in need of some help. Or should I say my curiosity is in need of some help. My friends are withholding the name they picked out for their daughter. They say it is a seven-letter name of a seasonal beer. Any thoughts? Thanks, Patrick

    Belgian Slut - Belgian IPA

I entered my version of this recipe into The Dominion Cup 2011, which was August 13th in Richmond, Virginia. I am proud to say that I received a silver medal in the Belgian and French ale category (out of 46 beers). I am still waiting on the tasting notes from the judges but I am thrilled that I...

    Belgian Slut - Belgian IPA

I added the sugars right at the end of the boil. I don't think it matter as long as you don't scorch the wort. On a side note this beer is finally bottle conditioned and it tastes awesome. I was afraid it would be way too hoppy but I actually think it is really well balanced. It's got a great...

    Belgian Slut - Belgian IPA

Turns out I only had 4 oz of brown sugar in the house, oops. Also my home brew supplier can't seem to keep Amarillo in stock so I went with 1 oz Centennial and 1 oz Cascade for the flavor addition. I did managed to hit 1.065 OG and I went with a Wyeast Belgian Strong. I plan on fermenting in...

    Belgian Slut - Belgian IPA

I was looking for a good belgian IPA to brew as my first all-grain batch. Headed to the store now to pick up the goods to brew this baby. Cheers.
