    TURBO Wort chiller

I use a magnetic stir bar in the kettle to increase cooling efficiency of a built-in immersion/HERMS. Works great and you don't have to fuss with a big ol mechanical stirrer.

Nutrient deficiency or too much nutrients?

The plants don't look that large and your soil looks fine (i.e., not playground sand) so I would really doubt that you are running into a deficiency this early in the game. They look kind of fried to me, like over zealous fertilization and/or watering.

I scored a rad beer cooler - kegerator!

I don't know anything about converting it to a combo rig/serving station, but it seems like you got a good deal. In my brief hunt for towers, aesthetically pleasing brass towers don't come cheap. If you don't end up using the whole rig, you'd probably make some good money just cleaning up and...

    Damaged False Bottom

I've had something similar happen with a much smaller FB and smaller bill, but also a result of stuck drainage with a recirculating run. Seems that those pumps can put some serious suction pressure when you get plugged up. Gotta be very careful with the pump flow rate. In my experience, once...

    Apple Pie Saison

I've never done it but I am very interested to see if you get a nice apple flavor in the final beer. Keep us posted!

    Nasty Moldy Rhizomes

Thanks for the reply Jipper. I did get a speedy response from the support staff. Thank you very much for your support, I really appreciate how MoreBeer has handled this. Turned my frown upside down! I'll pop em in the ground and hope for the best! Thanks again!

    Nasty Moldy Rhizomes

So I pre-ordered three varieties of rhizomes (3 each) from MoreBeer back in early January. The long anticipated package arrived today and much to my disappointment, the rhizomes were sent in a 12"x12"x8" box with no packing material, taking some abuse on their journey, and all of the Cascades...

    The hops are up!

Did you have the overhead horizontal lines last year? If so, was it relatively easy to train them? Sure would look pretty having a ceiling of bines!

Growing hops in a whiskey barrel with casters

I wish i put casters on mine :( If its not too late it'd be a good idea to drill some drainage holes in the bottom. Unsurprisingly these planters are pretty good at holding water!

    Three-zone Trellis Build

Don't worry Clover. It's more of an anticipated effect, you know? I'm hoping that the trellis induces such behavior. If 3D warehouse weren't sexually biased, I totally would have added myself as a scantily clad barbarian- but the best they had to offer was sweatpants. Nonetheless, thank you for...

    Three-zone Trellis Build

Its my SWMBO obviously! We have a large fence to keep out wandering ladies. Dont you? On a practical note. If I use 12' 4x4's will burying them 3' and seal in with concrete be a safe bet for sturdyness? Could I get by with 2' deep? The fence rule of thumb of depth equal to half the height...

    Three-zone Trellis Build

He is a veggie lover. We'll have to be careful!

    Three-zone Trellis Build

In anticipation for my rhizomes to arrive this year I decided to get a head start on my trellis design. I got a bit carried away with 3D warehouse, but it helps add scale! The system will have three zones, one for each variety. The total footprint is about 24' from end to end, 9' from front to...

120V, E-HERMS, 2 Vessel Broth of Vigor Build!

I decided to run a batch with passive heating of the mash tun water. Below is a figure of the temperature trace from start up to drain out. I really liked this method. While the initial temperatures were rising I got my grain ready and had breakfast. I streamlined the clean-up process, so in...

    Heat-Only Fermentation Chamber

I finished this up over the weekend. Here are a few photos. The front controls, including main power on/off, light on/off, and inside outlet on/off. As a heat source I used an extra dog-bed heater. I decided to mount it on the back wall instead of just setting it on the floor (not...

    Heat-Only Fermentation Chamber

In short, another DIY fermentation chamber using the famed e-bay temperature controller, the STC-1000. With no need for cooling, it will be a heat-only cabinet. I'm lucky enough to live in a place where the house is year-round too cold (or just about perfect sometimes) for good fermentation...

Show us your sculpture or brew rig

So they do makes wheels for those little shelves. I've gone trough hell and high water looking for some to no avail. Did you find them at lowes as well (presumably next to the shelves an not in some random dusty corner of the store)?

120V, E-HERMS, 2 Vessel Broth of Vigor Build!

Thanks kpr! You're right that the "set it and forget it" mode would work just fine. In one of the above figures I heated the MT by recirculating. Based off of that it would only take a little over one hour to get the HLT(BK) and MT to mash temp, not too bad and it sure is easier!

120V, E-HERMS, 2 Vessel Broth of Vigor Build!

Thanks guys I appreciate it! The graphs were made with pen, paper, and patience. A good opportunity to read. For science!

120V, E-HERMS, 2 Vessel Broth of Vigor Build!

Hi Josh, Pretty close. I had a stock pot of extra water on the stove heating up while the kettle heated. Once the set point was reached I transferred the right volume to the cooler. Using the hot water from the stove I topped off the kettle to cover the coil and turned the PID back on to heat...
