My first attempt at a belgian style beer...

I recently brewed a Belgian dubbel. I don't drink a lot of that style of beer but, it was something I wanted to do and I think it turned out pretty good. I took some with to a local mug club and everybody seemed to like it. I have received many compliments. Here is the recipe I threw...

    recipe critique please...

I have wrote a recipe using a few ingredients that I have never used before. If there is anything here that looks like a problem, please let me know. I am not very familiar with New Zealand hops and I have never used a Belgian yeast ... 10# 2-row 2# Vienna 1/2 # Wheat 1oz Super Alpha. 60 min...

If I am making a starter for a ten gallon batch, do I use only one smack pack and make a larger starter. I was thinking 1 cup of dme, 20-30 oz of water. Is my thinking correct?

    First time calculating efficiency...

Okay, I have been brewing AG for a year now. Yesterday was the first time I have ever calculated my mash efficiency. I hope I did it right. Let me start by saying that this was a messy mash. I tried squeezing almost 26 lbs of grain into a 10gal rubbermaid mlt. I obviously had an overflow. I...

    Hypothetically speaking...

What would happen if you accidentally mashed @ 175 degrees or more? My thermometer was off by 20 at the end of my boil last night and I am worried that my mash temp may have been way off. I chilled the wort and pitched the yeast anyway. I came home from work today, prepared to dump ten gallons...

cannot get 10 gallons to boil...

This boil will not get started! It has been stuck at 192 forever it seems. I am getting tired. I have a 155btu banjo burner. I have only done one 10 gallon batch before but it worked fine. Any suggestions? Does anybody else ever have this problem?

    mash temp too low?

I am brewing my first 10 gallon batch. I normally only do 5 gallons. I lost more temperature than normal when mashing in because of double the grain. I am at 148 but was looking for around 155. Would it benefit me to add 1 gallon of boiling water to my mash tun? Or should I just leave it. I am...

    My personal best!

I just tapped the best beer that I think I have brewed yet. What a glorious acheivement. I cannot express how much I love brewing. I have been brewing for a little less than a year. It started as a collaboration with a couple of friends. We started AG brewing right off, we had excellent, pro...

    My wort isnt fermenting...

I brewed on a Saturday night and realized that my wyeast pack had been smacked in the fridge. It never swelled up so, I left my wort in the bucket with an airlock on it until Monday (my LHBS is closed on Sunday) and pitched the yeast then. It has been close to 24 he's and I see no activity yet...

How much grain can be mashed in a 10 gallon cooler?

How much grain can I cram into a 10 gallon rubbermaid cooler? I want to start making 10 gallon batches. I have the space in my kettle and I have enough ferentors, I'm not sure about the MLT, though.
