    Hops Direct

I've been using HopsDirect for a number of years. Usually buy 7-10# of hops once a year. Great service, great product.

    Austin Homebrew Supply

I'm recently re-involved in online ordering after the tragic death of my LHBS. I ordered from Austin Homebrew last about a decade ago and had great service. My recent order was submitted on 2/29 and just shipped today, 3/12. This was only after an email prompt from me and a promise to ship...

    Rhizome growing help

Hops are vigorous. You have to work hard ot kill them. Definitely stay on top of southward rhizome creep - they will take over.

When is a secondary fermenter a good idea?

Honestly surprised there's this much debate here. OP: directions for homebrew kits were written likely a decade ago. General homebrew practice has changed a lot since then. Personally, I have decided that a lot of fussy brewing practices make no difference in the end quality of my beer and...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

My roaster is a $12 ebay rotisserie basket on a piece of all thread driven by my cordless drill. Works a treat, can do 2+ lbs at a time. Started with a popcorn popper.

Infection or just non chilled bottles?

I've had this problem bottling in the winter and drinking beers in the summer - difference in basement temp.

    Corned Beef?

I have, but went the smoker + pastrami treatment always. It was amazing.

Specialty IPA: Belgian IPA Houblon Chouffe aka HopChewy

This is a yearly go-to for me. Just rebrewed and totally changed the hop additions: 2oz cold conditioned amarillo, 2oz keg hop amarillo. Letting it condition in the keg, but it's an amazing base for what is basically now an IPA.

    Re-use yeast for imperial stout

These days, when I reuse, I just dump some of the trub into a sanitized jar and save.

Anybody else using Oxyclean instead of PBW?

I actually use PBW instead of oxyclean all the time. Works wonders on clothes!

What beers are you suffering through and drinking anyway?

Not drinking through it now, but the last batch I suffered through was Berliner Weisse. I remember it fondly from my semester in Berlin, but I was not enjoying the last few bottles.

    Disappointed in my rhizomes

+1 for buy direct. Bought mine 7 years ago from the hop supplier. Had no trouble.

How much do you oxygenate wort?

Not at all. Splash a little as I transfer. I also never make a starter. Basically the laziest brewer you know.

    Caramel flavor in a beer

Amber Candi syrup or boil down the first gallon.

Backyard brewing: how/where to drain all this water?

    That's a cool idea.

Poll: Do you have, or plan to get, an electric car?

No long distance driving here. Have a 9 year old Mazda 2 that's barely past 60K. So, prime for electric replacement when it dies. Hell, I'm a bike commuter, so my other car barely moves during the week.

Fermenting hoppy wort HOT with Kveik

I don't like Voss flavors at that temp, but try it. I found that even extra dry hops (a lot) did not hide it.

    If you could start over...

No way I'd do 3 gallon batches. Same amount of work for less beer? 5 gallons is where it's at.
