Looking for original Janet's brown ale recipe

When Janet's Brown Ale won the NHC gold medal in 2009, it as entered under category 23 Specialty Ale. In addition to making this using all grain, I have also bought the MoreBeer kits (Extract and All-grain) and they were fantastic. A little trick if you want to get the recipes from their kits...

    Yeast Starter for 20 gal

As PJKutah's cobrewer, I can tell you that he nailed the starters on this one. They started to krausen around 14 hours in and they are were at full krausen at 36 hours. Thanks for the support, guys!

Anyone using a B3 heated and cooled conical?

Thanks for the response, BSquared. Do you have a sense for what they use to heat the conicals? I definitely find the need to raise the temp of my fermentations near the end to finish fermentation and help the yeast clean up. My natural basement temp is 64 and I hate to heat the whole thing...

Anyone using a B3 heated and cooled conical?

I am brewing 20 gallon batches now and I feel that my brewing process is very consistent and repeatable. To me, the next logical step in improving my brewing is controlling fermentation temps. I also wouldn't mind brewing some lagers. I don't really have time (or space) to build a...

Is a Blichmann burner worth the bucks?

I love mine. I have two and they are so quiet and very effective at quickly heating up a 26 gallon MoreBeer kettle. WAY quieter than my banjo burner. I don't know if it is any more efficient (i.e. less propane) than the other burners. Build quality, stainless and quietness make me a very...

    Tri-clover will not seal!

Do you have the new one yet? I am interested in getting one of the 27 gallon heated and cooled conicals and would love to hear how you like it once you get a non-leaky one.

Clone Beer Founder's Breakfast Stout Clone

We brewed this recipe a little more than 2 months ago now. We let it primary for 4 weeks and then transferred it to a 10-gallon bourbon barrel. We did a barrel tasting with friends last night and everyone said it was the best beverage they had ever tasted, beer or otherwise. One of the ladies...

    Attention new all grain brewers!

I use a refractometer and BeerSmith when All-grain brewing. When you have all of your wort in the kettle ready to boil, take a refractometer reading and determine your pre-boil gravity. Beersmith will automatically tell you what this should be. For example, if I am doing a 60-minute boil on...

Need Help Selecting a Conical Fermenter

I have heard that the single bar across the top makes it tough to get a good seal on the fermenter. I would be very concerned about the general mechanics of the design.

Monster Mill 3 - 2.0: Standard, Stainless or hardened?

Good feedback. LHBS seem to have a lot of issues with all mills due volume as well. I will definitely give the 2 roller consideration.

Monster Mill 3 - 2.0: Standard, Stainless or hardened?

I am going to spoil myself and splurge for a Monster Mill 3-2.0 (http://www.monsterbrewinghardware.com/mm-320.html) Should I get the standard rollers, hardened rollers, or stainless? I am leaning toward standard. I brew 20 gallons once a month, typically working with 2-10 gallons batches...

    Hurricane Sandy casualties?

I have English Bitter in my keezer now and I keep it around 50 F. Now worries about temp. I might worry in the middle of summer if you had them stored in 110 F.
