    Did yeast starter start?

I bought a beer kit for Christmas and just opened it this week. I didn't know that it came with liquid yeast that needs to be refridgerated. It probably hasn't gotten any higher than 70 degrees in my house, so i'm not sure if it's any good still. To make sure it was still good, i made a...

    Mixing yeasts

Is it possible to put 2 or more different kinds of yeast in one batch of beer? I would assume you could, but I don't know if they would battle against each other or produce some funky byproduct.

    Erlenmeyer Flask???

Does anyone know of a store that sells Erlenmeyer flasks? I can't find any. I know I can order online, but I'd like to brew this week sometime.

    Adding water to secondary

If a batch is supposed to be 5 gal but only ends up being 4.5 gal, is it ok to add in an extra half gallon of water to the secondary fermenter? I would boil the water first and then cool it down to the same temp as the wort in the secondary. I think i forgot to add the extra half gallon when i...

    Sam Adams Summer Ale

Anyone have a picture of a Sam Adams Summer Ale poured in a glass? I'm brewing AHS's clone now and it's in the primary, but it looks darker than i remember it being. I haven't had it since last summer, but something doesn't look right to me.

    Yeast in beer

Is a wheat beer the only beer that you should swirl the yeast into and drink? And are you supposed to swirl the yeast into every type of wheat beer, regardless of color or regional style?

    Nutty flavor

How do you get a nutty flavor to come out in a beer? I'm going to be brewing a Sam Adams's Summer Ale clone and was wanting to get a little bit of a nutty flavor in it. What should I add to achieve this? Does anyone think this is a good or bad idea?

    Ultimate Factories: Budweiser (i.e. Buttwiper)

Anyone watching the Ultimate Factories show on the National Geographic Channel? They're profiling the Anheiser-Busch factory in St. Louis. It's pretty astounding how much beer they make. 100 million gallons a year. Just think it's cool to see how the big boys do it. Even though they're really...

    Favorite Beer?

Does anyone really have a favorite beer? Or maybe a favorite style of beer? I find it like trying to pick my favorite child, if i had children. I can't play favorites to one, I have to love them all equally. Just like God would do, right? Like how do you decide which is better a really...

    Alternative to Bottle Conditioning

I just made my first batch of beer an oktoberfest style and it's pretty darn good. I am new to the home brew thing and have a general question about bottling. How do the big companies bottle their beer? Why do they not have yeast in the bottle? Is it hard to do that for a homebrew as well?
