    Is my pot causing infection?

Thanks for the input. I think my best bet from what everyones posted is just to buy a new pot for brewing only. I am planning to brew tonight so hopefully i can find a new one locally for cheap. I let my pot soak in bbrite overnight, so if i cant find one today i may try to brew in it again...

    Is my pot causing infection?

Iv used this pot for two batches of beer and 2 batches of chili. Both batches of chili came out great... The beer, not so much. Its turned black inside. Its a cheap aluminum pot. Beer turned out bitter.

I will also note that the stout still does not have any head to it.

Need helpful input on Sour Chocolate Stout

Updating since it has now been 3 weeks. Its more carbonated for sure and the flavor is a bit different. Overall it has a sour flavor and is undrinkable. Any insight? On a positive note, I did just open one of my IPAs after 2 weeks in the bottle and it is came out excellent! I brewed it with...

Need helpful input on Sour Chocolate Stout

Well I've brewed a few ales that came out ok. My 1st stout i only used a primary and when bottling i got a lot of yeast into the bottles so i tried filtering the yeast out. Im prety sure that is what ruined that beer. The ones that had yeast in them tasted good. Temp was around 67 for the...

Need helpful input on Sour Chocolate Stout

This is the second stout I tried, and after 1 week in the bottle it has a sour taste and no head. I know I should wait longer to try, but it had this overly sweet sort of sour taste when I did my last hydrometer reading as well. I was pretty thorough in sanitation I thought. Not sure what I did...

    Bayou SQ14 vs SP10 Burner

I am new to brewing, have done about 3 batches so far. I have found that my kitchen stovetop is not big enough, I am getting a brown ring around the range. I want to move to outdoor brewing with a propane burner. I am new so I dont want anything too crazy, I read alot about Bayou Classic being a...

To much head space in Secondary?

Well im feelin good with the positive comments. I think ill let it sit until next wed or thurs unless i see any film. Living room siphon action was a once and done experience. Seems odd for the beer to be so dark, i used a muntons gold ipa kit with an extra 2lbs of light dme. Is that normal?

To much head space in Secondary?

Another question. The directions I used said to put cheap vodka or sanitized water into the airlock of the primary. What does this method accomplish, and should it be done for secondary too?

To much head space in Secondary?

I think our sanitation was pretty spot on. The biggest issue I had was cooling the wort after the boil. I didn't have enough ice and it took about 40min before I had it cooled down and poured into fermenter. Rookie mistake, I guess next time I need to double up on the ice. A few days into the...

To much head space in Secondary?

Thanks for the input. It is actually a 5g carboy, Im not quite sure how we lost so much. Union-When you say it starts to look "off" do you mean a layer of film as twistr mentioned? If not for film are there any other signs, and would it be to far gone once the film started?

To much head space in Secondary?

My IPA concoction has fermented for 3 weeks in the primary. Last night I transferred it to a secondary and added some hop pellets in hopes to add some flavor/aroma over the next week and then move to bottling. Im a bit worried now though because I lost some beer during a blowoff early in the...

    Hello from Philadelphia

Im also in the Blue Bell area, and am trying to upgrade from my mr. beer kit which I got as a gift. Brewed 1 beer with it but I want to get into something more intense. I live close by Keystone Homebrew so will probably try there. Did you think the basic kit they have comes with enough and is a...
