    Pumpernickel Porter?

Wow yeah- didn't realize I forgot to come back with the results. Unfortunately it's been too long to be specific but honestly I don't remember that brew all that well. Don't think it turned out very memorable unfortunately.

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Bourbon Vanilla Porter (AG)

Coy94, It's a slow leak in the keg. The leak's slow enough that it couldn't build up the pressure to carbonate, but still keeps just enough in straight from the bottle to push it through the tap. Speaking from experience here unfortunately. It's also a sign you might need a CO2 refill shortly...

Need help with DFH 90 min. extract conversion

I thought that didn't sound right. 10 lbs, gotcha. Went the wrong way with the multiply/divide. Thanks!

Need help with DFH 90 min. extract conversion

I'm thinking of brewing this on Sunday (extract version). However, my LHBS does not carry DME and only sells LME. Do you think the usual conversion of 0.8 * DME will be fine here, or are they specifying DME for a reason? That comes out to 6.4 lb LME plus the steeping grains, but that doesn't...

Adding caraway seeds to a rye

Update on my caraway experiment. Just kegged the pumpernickel porter a few days ago and it's just starting to carbonate (just my luck ran out of co2 that day). Anyway, cold but flat, it came out well. After I mentioned I had only added the caraway after the boil because I didn't want it too...

    Pumpernickel Porter?

Well I hadn't heard how any of this turned out, so I went into this semi-blind. I combined a few recipes and techniques found here and across the interwebs, plus a few actual pumpernickel bread recipes, and came up with this extract version. I also found somewhere a technique that only adds...

Adding caraway seeds to a rye

I have a pumpernickel porter "experiment" in the primary right now myself. I started with a rye stout base and wanted just a hint of the caraway, and not so much it overpowered the beer. So, instead of adding it early in the boil or to the secondary, I added it as soon as I turned off the heat...

    Kegging: you all were right

My favorite part of switching to kegging was not spending all that time cleaning and sanitizing bottles... I absolutely hated that part of the process. Now with that time freed up, I can get to drinking sooner :) not to mention it's just plain satisfying to have a kegerator and tap built with...

Seriously? Give me a break with the hops already.

Totally with you on this one. My favorite aspect of brewing and beer in general variety. While I appreciate a good IPA, I do see a trend of many of them overdoing it on the hops. Not only that but it seems like everyone is making more and more IPAs at the expense of others styles. Even the...

    Bourbon Pecan Pie Ale

This looks like a project worth working on... I'm definitely in love with the idea of this beer! I like beer, pecan pie, bourbon, bourbon pecan pie... What could be better? I wonder if maybe another way to approach this in the face of the flavor issues above is taking a look at what goes in a...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Bourbon Vanilla Porter (AG)

Gearing up to brew an extract version of this over the weekend. Quick question... I'm assuming the recommendation for the 90-120 minute boil holds true for the extract version as well? 10 or so lbs of LME plus the steeping grains puts this up as the most I've used for a 5 gallon batch before!

Good dark beer for standard tap

Hi all, I just kegged for the first time and got myself set up with a Sanyo 4912 kegerator (thanks to the how-to gurus on the forum). Not sure if this falls under kegging, recipes, how-to, or another topic, but here goes... I've put a honey wheat on one tap, and I was thinking to put something...
