Using electric element to control mash temp

Also with that MYPIN PID, you also have to have some kind of relay to handle the power to the element, correct? What are you using?

Using electric element to control mash temp

auggiedoggy, so are you maintaining the temp of the wort from the mash, or the hot water that it circulates through? If the latter, how do you collect the wort that's in the coil when mash is done? I'd thought about doing it this way but once the wort has cleared the pump I couldn't see an...

Using electric element to control mash temp

Several months ago I set up my 10 Gal igloo cooler with a rancho digital controller, a pump, and a ultra-low density heating element to keep my mash at a steady temp. The igloo on its own always lost several degrees over the hour, probably because I liked to stir it once in a while to mix the...

Problem with advanced mash temperature control

Acidrain, the mash heats just fine. The probe takes a long time to change while a digital thermometer in the mash shows the actual temperature. shtoive87, they are not in exactly the same spot, but even if I stir the mash and then check, the difference is there. I put a switch on the heating...

Problem with advanced mash temperature control

But if I'm constantly circulating the wort- it goes out the bottom and back in the top- shouldn't I end up with a pretty even temperature? I'm not trying to heat the mash from cold this way, I'm just trying to maintain the temp. The element is a 4000 watt 240V low-density element running at...

Problem with advanced mash temperature control

I have a Ranco digital controller and probe. It is used to turn a heating element on and off inside the mash tun, which is a 10 gallon igloo. I have a ciruclation pump which runs constantly, and the probe is measuring the temperature of the wort exiting the tank and into the pump. I have the...

    Blow-off tube ?

To keep good sanitation, the end of the blowoff tube should be in a bucket or bowl with Star San water. That way when fermentation subsides, there's no bacteria buildup on the old krausen inside the tube that could make its way into your beer.
