Rye IPA FG and Krausen in Secondary ?

Thanks again Amanda. So I think that I'll let if hang out for a week or two and then check the FG's again. Hopfully it'll finish up.

Rye IPA FG and Krausen in Secondary ?

Thanks Amanda. This is the first time I've ever had this happen. We pitched a 1 liter starter and it fermented like a champ, but no activity for over a week or so. I usually try to do serial FG's to make sure it's done fermenting, but it's been a crazy week. It has a month to sit in the...

Rye IPA FG and Krausen in Secondary ?

We brewed the Denny's Rye Smile Rye IPA two weeks ago. I checked the OG after brewing and it was perfect at 1.078. We racked it to the secondary yesterday and the FG was 1.031. Does that seem right to everyone. It works out to 6.5-6.5 %ABV which seems ok, but I just want to make sure. I'm...

Dialing in a love tss2 w/ new freezer

Good morning brewers: I'm looking for some help with dialing in my TSS2 with my new fermentation chamber freezer. I had a 17.5 cubic foot freezer that died last week. I was able to maintain temps with ice packs and frozen water bottles until I bought the new one last night. I bought a 7 cu ft...

    aerating/oxygenating- what's your method?

I usually pour my cooled wort into one of my 6.5 gallon buckets with enough cold water to top up to 5 gallons. Then I pour it back and forth between my other sanitized 6.5 gallon buckets about 4-5 times. That seems to aerate it well. Then I pitch my starter and seal it up. So far, so good with...

    CDA extract recipes

The Northern Brewer Black IPA was my last brew. Very good beer. I currently have a bottle of Hop in the Dark sitting in my fridge, waiting. But I have recently tried Ink Heart CDA from Laurelwood Brewing in Oregon. The NB Black IPA was very similar to the Ink Heart. I've also had Dark Rain from...

Swollen smack pack right out of package

UPDATE: I decided to start the starter today so if the yeast is no good, I'll still have time to grab another smack pack prior to brew day on Sunday. After all that worry, the inner packet was still intact. I cut that packet and poured it into the starter after I pitched the yeast. Next...

Swollen smack pack right out of package

Thanks guys, I was just a little worried. We plan on brewing Sunday. I was going to start the starter on Friday. Should I start it sooner? Can I refrgierate it until I need it if I complete the starter early? Thanks again.

Swollen smack pack right out of package

Good afternoon all: UPS just dropped off my package of a NB Denny's Wry Smile Rye IPA. Everything was ok until I opened the envelope with my yeast. It's the Wyeast 1450 Denny's Favorite 50 strain. The smack pack is already swollen. This is the first time that I ordered a smack pack. It was...

    Buying a keg system

Good idea. That will be on my next order. I'm gonna stick with the picnic faucets for now. I'm pretty sure that it will be no problem to install taps on my fridge door though. Any ideas on taps?

    Buying a keg system

I did the same thing. I bought two O-Ring replacement kits. Hopefully as spares, but we will see when the kegs arrive. Thanks.

    Buying a keg system

Good afternoon everyone. I'm working on buying a double keg system with the dual output regulator from Midwest Supply. This will be my first keg and attempt at kegging. What else should I buy? I'll put my list of ideas below. Please feel free to add or change anything. Double Ball Lock Keg...

what can I use as a hop bag (cant get my hands on one!)

Any idea if a piece of plastic window screen mesh work? I'm thinking about cutting out a circle of this and using a zip tie to attach it to my Auto-Siphon. I have a roll of this sitting in the garage.

    Session style CDA

Awesome. My Black IPA is friggin awesome. All of my friends are loving it. My Dad is taking a six pack to Nantucket to visit some friends and fellow beer lovers. I want to try to brew a few different beers this summer, but I can't shake the CDA idea. I love this beer style. I might make one and...

    Session style CDA

The Black IPA was ready last night. I've been waiting two months for this moment. Good carbonation. The pour was OK. Not much of a head. Not a huge deal. It looks and smells fantastic. Nice hop aroma. The taste is outstanding. Hoppy up front. Nice malt backbone. Hoppy finish. No off alcohol or...

    Session style CDA

My Black IPA was the Northern Brewer kit so no smoked malt. I do have a few CDA / Black IPA recipes that I'm going to try. One of them will include the smoked malt. I'm going to swirl the bottle to rouse the yeast tonight and then into the fridge on Sunday. I can't wait to try it. :rockin:
