    Six Weeks In Fermenter

Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond my control, I have had to leave my brew in the fermenter for 6 weeks. The first chance I will get to bottle it is (maybe) Saturday. The last time I took a gravity told me it was done, but since then I have had to wait, being away from home, etc. When I...

First Brew Day - What I learned so far

I'm confused by what you said about the air lock. Did you really wait three days to put it on the fermenter?

    New Brewer Dumb Question

I highly recommend taking a brewing class at your local brew store if they offer it. Also as the others said you should most definitely do a few brew kits. They come with all the ingredients and very specific instructions. I personally would NOT recommend you do any kind of recipe that doesn't...

    Should I Bottle Now?

Thanks for your opinion guys. The OG was 1.06 which was right in the middle of the recipes range. The gravity I took Sunday gave it a 5.25 abb and the recipe says expected is 5.75 minimum. I will wait until I get back as you recommended. Tastes mighty good btw :)

    Should I Bottle Now?

It has been 2 weeks to the day, caramel witbier. I took a gravity on Sunday and it was 1.02, tonight's gravity was 1.018, leading me to think maybe I misread the other gravity. The airlock bubbles but not much at all. Going on a business trip tomorrow and I don't want any bottle bombs.

    wort chilling wth!

Ok it's figured out that I'm a dumba**. What happened was I was using a digital oven thermometer for the boil and it worked so well I used it for the chill also. Apparently digital oven thermometers don't go below something like 100. I put a different thermometer in and it read 60. All is well...

    wort chilling wth!

First venture after class. I have a wort chiller with ice water in the tub, being circulated with a pump through the coils. It is 30 something outside. It seems to be taking FOREVER to chill this wort. What the heck!!

    First Unsupervised Venture, Need Advice

So I guess I will just do the recipe as is and leave the experimentation for when I have more experience under my belt

    First Unsupervised Venture, Need Advice

joemc33 I feel sort of the same, in particular about the Belgian Witbier I made. Best brew I ever had and I would drink it any day. The only reason I got this one is because my LBS didn't have it in stock.

    First Unsupervised Venture, Need Advice

That was actually one of my thoughts - just add the appropriate spices instead. In what quantity though?

    First Unsupervised Venture, Need Advice

Here is the scenario I have a Brewers Best kit - Belgian Caramel Wit which I realize is a spring beer but I wanted to turn it into something special. I have fresh pumpkin I have appropriate spices I have plenty of fresh picked Fuji apples Do you think I can do anything with that or should...

Help Me Decide On A Base For My Pumpkin Beer

I have two choices in this case: 1. Belgian Caramel Wheat kit 2. Witbier kit put together for me by my brew store guy who already knows what I want to do with it. Essentially asking if you think Caramel and Pumpkin/pumpkin spices will go well together. The Caramel Wit is supposed to be...

My First Brew Is In The Fermenter

Hi, just had to share this because I'm so excited Yesterday I had my brewing class at Mountain Man Wine and Brew Supply in Berkeley Springs WV. It was a super great experience. If any of you are in the area, I recommend you come to the shop. The beer I made was a Witbier from a kit. OG...

    Newbie questions

You have spent the money so far, it would be a total waste of that money to not find some way to either buy or creatively engineer a cooling system for the fermenter. As was said before, and granted I too am a newby but I have read and been told enough to know that you do NOT want your beer...
