    Two Month Break

Yeah, I know what you mean. You're be surprised at what fructose it put in. Once I started reading labels, it was puzzling what they put it in, even things that you wouldn't think need to be sweet at all.

    Two Month Break

Something else to think of is fructose is processed through the liver the same way alcohol is. Cutting anything containing fructose can go a long way as well.

    Inaugural run for new system

One thing I did learn about my PID was that manual mode still references your target temp. For my boil. I shut off the pump and drained the hose to pour back into the kettle so my temp probe never really got above 130 during the boil. I ran the PID at 60-75% during the boil. A few minutes before...

    Inaugural run for new system

Yeah, this is a 240V 30A build. I probably have ~$150 in parts into the controller from the wall to everything mounted in the controller. This doesn't include things like the cord from the controller to the heating element or the fact that I swapped out my dryer outlet for a grounded outlet...

    Inaugural run for new system

I have a SNPA clone recipe that a good friend back in Chicago really liked. I don't know if I'll make it much despite really liking it because hoppy beers are about the only think my wife WON'T drink. Now that I say the "back in Chicago" bit, I just realized that my profile still has the wrong...

    Inaugural run for new system

Well, first brew day took a little more than 4 hours from the time I started heating my water to the time I shut it all down. That even included a bit of an autotune on the PID. I have not completed clean up. My wort is still in the kettle. I'm letting it cool off just a bit more after I got it...

    Inaugural run for new system

Also, I should note that this is the first time I've brewed at all in over 2 years and it's probably been over 3 years since I brewed all grain at all. This is the easiest brew day I've ever had!

    Inaugural run for new system

This is EXACTLY what I've been doing. Only thing that might be a pain is when I go to chill, I'll have to clear it all off. Top of the dryer is sloped, unfortunately. Not sure why Samsung thought they needed to do that.

    Inaugural run for new system

I bet. So far, the only hiccough I've had was right after I mashed in, I had the bag a little too loose and it worked it's way between the kettle and the false bottom. Got pulled into the pump tube. The automatic nature of this is awesome, though. I'm wrapping up the mash now and so far, all...

    Inaugural run for new system

Finally doing my first run for this new system! This is my first real biab in one vessel so I'm hoping this goes much faster than mashing in a bucket and heating on the stove. Thanks to Bobby_M for the kettle set up! The welding is top notch on this thing! I built the controller myself with an...

How do you Mash in w/BIAB?

Huh. Was looking to get a paddle since I'm moving up from stovetop brewing. I've just used the largest spoon in the kitchen. Now I think I need to skip the paddle and get a giant whisk.

    Recipes for testing new systems

How much of everything did you use? I should be able to figure out the 60 minute addition of Cascade just to get me to 30ibu but how high do you usually go on the og with something like this?

    Recipes for testing new systems

Thanks for the suggestions. I haven't brewed in probably 3-4 years. Moving and going changes have just made life busy. Much of what prompted me to get back into brewing was that my wife suddenly likes beer. The only catch is that she doesn't like hoppy beers. She's liked every single one I've...

    Recipes for testing new systems

Do any of you have a go to recipe for testing new systems while working out your efficiency, boil off, etc? I'm getting back into brewing after several years with a ebiab setup I've built. I don't know how this is going to perform at all as all my brewing has been stovetop including mashing in...

What is Your Efficiency - batch Spargers

I usually get between 80-85% sparging a biab using a corona mill. Still tweaking my system so that explains the wider than usual gap.

    Correcting overshot OG

Cool, thanks! I had the water on to boil as I typed my first post. It's sitting on the stove cooling now.

    Correcting overshot OG

So, I brewed an English mild yesterday on a new system and took the gravity reading this morning. It was supposed to be 5 gal. at 1.037 but came out as 4 gallons at 1.056! My calculations tell me I should add about 2 gallons to correct the gravity. Will adding this much water change the flavor...

    benefit to growing own hops

Awsome. One more reason I will survive the zombie apocalypse.
