    Equipment to start AG?

Oh... if I could get my wife that interested in beer and brewing. Your Husband is truly a lucky man!! Now all you need to do is brew a batch behind his back and have it kegged and under the tree for Christmas!! You will never see a kegerator put together quicker I am sure!! :mug:

    Equipment to start AG?

throwing this out there.... but if you start going all grain, I love my three keg system. 15.5 gallons each. which is plenty of space for a 10gal batch. I would also note that if you have not switched out to kegs at this point, you might want to. Because at this point in the game I have pretty...

    Not Even a Noob Yet

I have an addictive personality too.. first thing I did was get a 5 gal setup and a wort chiller. Then I moved to 10gal batches and a kegerator... unlike other hobbies I have tried this one's pay off is just so much better... I cant help but expand. Good luck, once you drink your first brew...

    freezer question

If you do this let us know how and how it works.... I have one of those type of freezers in my Garage, but I assumed it would be worthless for this application because of the cooling shelves. Wouldn't break my heart to turn it into a ferm chamber.

The same questions day after day...

personally I read a lot of these same questions, and put in my input (If someone hasn't beat me to what I was going to say). Even though some things have the same answers... you will find some threads that still teach you something even though you "know" the answer. My routine lately is...

    First All Grain Question

Are you batch sparging or fly? Not that it makes much of a difference. Other than temps my mash technique doesn't change at all for different beers unless I am doing one with a lot of wheat... then I add rice hulls. So I say pick your favorite style and brew on!

    Jumping in with both feet.

Love that mash paddle, I was just looking at the cut tops of my kegs and wondering what I was ever going to use them for. Avery makes some damn good beer. I wish I could help you out with a recipe but my IIPA doesn't taste very close to Maharaja. Its real damn good don't get me wrong but I must...

    Pressure in keg keeps rising

Yes, regulators are not made for liquid. Then you take sticky beer and put it in there you are asking for trouble. Your regulator could be just fine. but if you are going to carb that way I would definitely recommend a check valve. If you dont want to risk it, I wouldn't (regs are expensive)...

    Pressure in keg keeps rising

One thing I would chime in on. It doesnt look like you have any check valves. Carbing the way you do can cause the beer to foam up when taking your pressure down. Regulators will off gas excess pressure. That can cause foam to come back up the CO2 line and into your regulator. This is bad and...

    Bad mash efficiency

Maybe check the PH of your mash? Try reducing the gap on your crusher. I have mine at .35, I have seen it here more than once "crush till you are scared" You could even try raising the sparge temp to 170ish. There is another thread going here that is almost Identical to this one, not sure...

Removing the ball valve (really dumb question)

Probably not a bad Idea. Personally I just some boiling water through it for a few minutes and call it good. The ball valve being at the bottom of of your brew kettle should get plenty hot enough to kill things off anyway. Someone please correct me if I am way off base on this. :)

I NEED help with my efficiency

I had problems with inefficiency when batch sparging which is why I switched to fly sparge. Granted... they were my first all grain beers... and I was probably doing it wrong. I actually think it was my equipment not my technique. Which gave me a reason to convert a keg into a MLT. I switched...

My first kegerator! Lots of questions, expert advice needed

I pour all of my beer at roughly the same psi. There is generally a sweet spot in between 10-14lbs of pressure. Almost any beer will pour at these pressures. I used to work for a distributor and any time I was setting up a keg I always used 12lbs as my starting point and worked from there. I...
