Should I get a hydrometer reading tonight (Friday).

Fermentation started Friday evening, no bubbles today (Tuesday). If the FG is good, can I bottle it tonight or is it too soon? I just read on www.howtobrew.com that it is 2-3 weeks for ales before they can be bottled. What if the FG is where it should be? You don't want in sitting for too...

I was wanting to try the two stage method, but I don't have a 5 gallon carboy. My question is, why can't I just use a food grade 5 gallon bucket? I can pick one up at the local donut shop for like 75 cents. Is there a problem with this?

Are 5 gallon water buckets ok to use for a secondary fermenter? I have one and I was thinking about sterilizing and using it. It is a 5 gallon clear Culligan water bucket.

I was looking at the airlock and noticed only a bubble ever few seconds. It has been fermenting since Friday evening. Today being Sunday, should it be bubbling more or is it ok?:confused:

My wife went and bought me a hydrometer today. I started brewing this evening and after I filled my fermenter up to five gallons, I went to get my OG reading and discovered that the hydrometer was broke. I went ahead and added the yeast even though I didn't know what the OG reading was...

Did my first brew about a year ago. Plan on starting my second one this week. Seems like a great site.
