    wide mouth carboys?

Ive seen people use stainless 5 gal ball/pin lock kegs with some type of pressure relief valve system on them as fermentors. closed system fermentation i think its called. most people can get their arm all the way in those, but not everyone. plus with those light isnt an issue.

Homebrew Competitions are great. So is bragging.

Thanks, the best part was the feedback from judges. I didn't place with my IPA. The judges said it tasted "past its prime" but it was only in the bottle for a few weeks. Any clue what that means? I'll be entering more at the First Coast Cup in Jacksonville, FL...

I just entered my first comp. and won 3rd place in category 23. Specialty Beer with a black IPA (there were only 7 other beers in the category). It feels great! You gotta try this! It's like a drug....(peer pressure). It was the HogTown Brew-Off in Gainesville, FL. Just wanted to brag. Thanks...

    Herms Question

yeah I guess that would be the best bet, but too much work for 1 or 2 beers at best. how about pushing it through with starsan solution? or an air compressor?

    Herms Question

I usually sterilize the coil by recirculating the boiling wort from the kettle through my coil and back into the boil kettle towards the end of the boil.

Help rescue a high gravity, low IBU beer

have you listened to the latest Basic Brewing Radio podcast? http://www.basicbrewing.com/index.php?page=radio http://stempski.com/hop_vodka.php I think this is fantastic and I can't wait to try it. Not that it would get you closer to the clone, but found it relevant.

    temp control?

What is an FV? They are talking about maintaining warm enough fermentation temps in the fridge when it gets too cold outside in winter. I just wrap a simple 60 watt light bulb with foil and turn it on in the fridge, works great here, but it doesnt get colder than 40 here.
