    sour mash "mash" question

I have brewed two of these and both have been pretty good, but I'm always confused when initially mashing. I do the 150F rest for 60 minutes and then mash out at 170F for 10 minutes then reduce to 120F for 48 hours then collect the wort and boil it. My question is... should I be skipping the 10...

My hefe yeast top cropping experiment

How did this end up working for you? Did you need to make starters of what you had left in the pint jars, or did you have plenty of cells for an average beer? Seems like a good idea. I'll be doing open fermentation this weekend on a Bavarian Hefe and would like to do the same thing if this...

    Keg Force Carbing Methods Illustrated

Right on! thanks for the quick helpful replies. I found a 5' piece of hose laying around and I hooked it up, so far it seems o dispense fine at 12 PSI, it's quick but not over foamed. Thanks again! :mug:

    Keg Force Carbing Methods Illustrated

also after two weeks at 12 psi for 2 volumes do I just keep it at 12 psi? Or will it begin to start over carbing at that point?

    Keg Force Carbing Methods Illustrated

Right on, thank you very much for this info, I'll try 10 ft of hose that way I don't have to play with the regulator much.

    Keg Force Carbing Methods Illustrated

    Keg Force Carbing Methods Illustrated

Okay so i am new to the kegging thing and i had a quick question. I am using the sit and wait method, I hit the keg with 12 psi and it has almost been two weeks now. Once I'am ready to serve it or am happy with the carbed level do I need to lower the pressure? Or just keep it at 12? This...

    BIAB Brewing (with pics)

Unfortunately I'm working with a 12" opening on the top of my newly converted kegel, so the only basket I can find that fits is this one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00062VZOW/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 downside is it's only 30 qts. do you think it can adequately do the job for an AG BIAB...

    BIAB Brewing (with pics)

Seven, quick question, what are the real dimensions of that 44-quart Bayou Classic model B144 stainless steel perforated basket that you use? I've been looking around on the net and I keep finding 2 different measurements for the same basket. Is it 13.5" deep by 11" wide? If so that would be...

Some other ideas to better support the grain basket: Add a wire rack or something else to the bottom of the kettle to support the basket Modify the basket by adding some legs or supports so it rests on the bottom of the kettle This is a good question you've asked... be sure to let us...

    BIAB Brewing (with pics)

How is the dip tube coming off your valve from the inside of the kettle affected by 20 pounds of grain in a steel turkey fryer pot laying on top of it? Im definitely inspired to make a kettle out of a keg and start brewing this way, but am trying to think of away around this problem.

so if I was to do an NB tripel extract and the kit directions say to add the candi sugar to the boiling wort, should i divert and wait till after boil to add it? yeast starters vs double pitching

good point! I'll have to pick up a couple smaller carboys and give this a shot :mug:

    yeast starters vs double pitching

All great info and thanks for all the resources, I would like to taste the same brews side by side one pitched with us05 and the other pitched with a liquid yeast starter to see exactly what different flavors the specialty liquid yeast will bring out.

    yeast starters vs double pitching

1 more noob question regarding the starters. It's my understanding that you pitch the starter into the wort at the same time you would normally pitch the yeast, correct? That is once you have the temperature below 75 at least. So in order to do this properly it's best to make the starter a day...
