Bizarre CO2 leak fixed, most of you have likely never seen this (w/ pics + video)

JB is the cheapest and easiest by far, so I will start there on one of the cracked regulators. I'll see your dollar and raise you two bits! I can solder pretty well, could I try that instead of brazing? Brazing requires more equipment than I have access to. Probably not worth the time, $, and...

Bizarre CO2 leak fixed, most of you have likely never seen this (w/ pics + video)

Do you know if you have a nylon gasket or fixed rubber o-ring inside that connection? If you can get it apart that is the first thing to look at. Keep at that hex nut, I have had some tanks and regulators that were screwed together so tight it took two people to get them apart, one person with a...

Bizarre CO2 leak fixed, most of you have likely never seen this (w/ pics + video)

Good point about the over tightening. It seems like a combination of that and a defect since the leak is occurring on the exact same square millimeter of space on two consecutive regulators. I did not screw these together btw, it came assembled like this from kegconnection.com

I have had it for almost 2 years. I am thinking of giving them a call.

Bizarre CO2 leak fixed, most of you have likely never seen this (w/ pics + video)

Thanks Cadi, it's good not to be alone. I'm wondering now if I can put JB weld or something else over the crack to stop the leak?

Bizarre CO2 leak fixed, most of you have likely never seen this (w/ pics + video)

I have been in the beer business for a while and I fix gas leaks all the time. I take pride in getting it done quickly and efficiently. So it was infinitely frustrating for me to have one in my personal kegerator and not be able to figure it out for months! So tonight rather than damn near climb...

    Has anyone used FRESH hibiscus?

The boil is halfway over. Anyone?

    Has anyone used FRESH hibiscus?

I found some at the farmers market. It's purple and crazy looking, and I want to brew a saison with some. After hours of searching, I can not find a single reference to using fresh (as opposed to dried) hibiscus sepals here or elsewhere. I'm a little worried about imparting a vegetable or weedy...

Delayed CaCO3 with roasted grain addition?

Thanks for the response Kai. I've been carefully reading through Bru'n Water and the spreadsheets; what a great tool, it's better than promash! My mineral additions will cause Ca 56 Mg 8 Na 39 SO4 43 Cl 64 bicarb 123 I'm satisfied with this profile. But the question remains, should...

Delayed CaCO3 with roasted grain addition?

Thank you for the info. ]I've never heard that calcium carbonate is not effective. I don't know of any guidelines for using lime or how it would affect hardness, can you make a suggestion based on an anticipated London water profile? And should I add it with the roasted malts, or at the...

Delayed CaCO3 with roasted grain addition?

I am brewing a double oatmeal stout in a few days, and plan to add the roasted barley and chocolate malt at about 5 - 10 minutes before sparging. I have very soft water (HCO3 23ppm, every other ion under 6 ppm), and plan to add chalk to increase alkalinity. I feel like if I add the chalk long...

    Best brewing thermometer?

Look closer, they have 4 different models. The two regular $25 ones you are talking about only have 1.9*F accuracy. The two $50 "Ultra" models have a 0.4*F and a 0.9*F accuracy. Also, I would not advise making a purchase with this company. I just tried to place an order for one $50 thermometer...

    New from thermoworks...

I'm looking at these right now. Their accuracy ranges from +/- 0.2 - 0.5*C depending on the model. The Therma K has an accuracy of +/- 0.3*C, so they are comparable, but half the price. http://vwrlabshop.com/vwr-long-stem-thermometers/p/0013413/...

    New from thermoworks...

I haven't used it, but I did check it out. Looks good, but the probe it comes with is not submersible, though you can get a water and heat proof one for an additional $29. But $129 seems extreme with all the other high accuracy options out there.

    Best brewing thermometer?

The CDN and Thermapen work well, but they are too short IMO. I'm looking at these right now, and actually started a thread about it a few minutes ago http://www.labdepotinc.com/Product_Details~id~830~pid~60141.aspx

    Traceable Ultra Long-Stem Thermometer

I have spent hours looking for a good digital thermometer and ruling out the junk. I can't find any reviews on what looks like a good series: http://www.labdepotinc.com/Product_Details~id~830~pid~60141.aspx The 4352 has an 8 inch probe and an accuracy of +/-0.2*C(!) and the 4354 has an 11 inch...

Green Apple Hefe, need a little advice please

Thanks Nate. I probably could blend with some cider, but I'm trying to keep it purely beer except for fresh apple additions. 2 weeks seems reasonable. I have done this before with other fruits, but I didn't know if apples have their own special properties/problems. Anyone have apple experience...

Green Apple Hefe, need a little advice please

The beer is almost done. I put 3 cored and peeled granny smith apples in the mash, which I think really farked with my pH (which I forgot to check) and caused my efficiency to drop to 65% (I normally get 75-80% batch sparging). Lesson learned. Anyway, I am going to split the batch, adding...

Intense rauchbier using Best Malz rauch malt

I finally emailed Best Malz. It is in fact beechwood smoked. She said I'm not the first to contact them about it, and other brewers recommend using 30-40%. So there we are.

Intense rauchbier using Best Malz rauch malt

Here you go jessup: 7 lbs. Best Malz smoked malt 1 lb Munich 1 lb Vienna .5 lb carapils .25lb Black Prinz It was in primary for 19 days, and has now been in secondary at 38-40* for forty days. Just took a sample - still nothing but a smoke bomb. I'm getting impatient now. I need a quick fix...
