Buy/crush grain for brew next day?

Is there anything wrong with buying and crushing your grain to prepare for a brew the next day? I guess I'm concerned about efficiency being affected or some other chemical change taking place while the crushed grain sits for 18 hours or so.

    Leaving a brew rig outside

I'd figure painting it would be good enough. Maybe do the ol' pumps-in-a-toolbox trick.

    Leaving a brew rig outside

@wilserbrewer - You know I never really considered BIAB before, might need to look into that. I do like the simplicity of it. @p-j - Good point, if it came down to it I could rig up some sort of quick release plate, which would add to the 'overhead' of a brew day but not the end of the world.

    Leaving a brew rig outside

I've been thinking about building a brew bench for a while now, but one of the main problems is that I don't have a garage to easily roll her in/out. I'm thinking of doing the standard 3 burner, 2 pump, manually controlled setup, with pilots/ignition. So I'm wondering if I just left the brew rig...

    Avery or Poor Mans Labels?

I use small address labels and just put them on the caps. When you pull the cap off you've got a nice clean bottle again. Soaking bottles is just a pain in my opinion, not worth the extra effort for a big custom label.

    What to buy next?

Just throwing in my 2cents. It's your money, you don't actually *have* to spend it. If you don't have a burning need for something now, I'd just save it.. ;)

new to AG, step by step and recipe?

I'd recommend picking up a copy of Palmer's book, How to Brew. It has a chapter that explains your first AG brew step by step (mostly just about mashing..). My advice would be to keep it simple and thoroughly prepare before starting the mash.

    Stout turned brown during fermentation

I did my second brew the other day, made Papazian's Cushlomachree stout. Everything went great during the brew, hit the OG dead-on, etc. I used brewer's choice activator and a volcano of fermentation was going within 6 hours of pitching the yeast. I left town for the night and apparently my...

    RIMS circulation temp overshoot

If you want to control overshoot, it may help to lower to proportional gain on your controller (the 'P' in 'PID'). Increasing the 'I' gain should get help rid of steady state error.

    Any experience with Cream Ales?

I'm doing an American cream ale from Brewers best as my first home brew. It's been happily fermenting for about 4 days now. Can't tell you if it's any good at this point but it was a pretty easy recipe to follow. It came with regular ol' hop pellets, so no steeping.

To Secondary or Not? John Palmer and Jamil Zainasheff Weigh In

Lots of good information here. I'm brewing my first beer right now and I've been kicking around the idea of transferring to a secondary (as the instructions recommend). I think I'm just going to keep it simple and let it sit in the primary for another week or so instead.
