    Any local homebrewers in alaska

To revive an old thread, still new to fairbanks area (<1 year) and an experienced all grain brewer getting back into it after 7 years, looking for any local homebrewerd to nerd to. My wife's eyes glaze over when I talk about brewing

Creating an NA (Or...how I neutered my beer)

Esky, I attempted it with a scottish 70/- a few years back, at about the same temp and time you did. I sent mine off for lab analysis, and only had dropped the ABV to around 2.5%. Which is nice for making it super sessionable, but not what I was aiming for to make a N/A beer. I will try again...

    Star San

I have this problem too, and it's relieving to hear it's not too serious! I don't like it, though, because it has some sort of sediment in it (I assume it's bicarbonate settling out with the acid, or something - my water has 350ppm bicarbonate). It doesn't happen with my softened water, though...

Before I toss this March 809 in the trash...

I have had some issues as well, and figured out that if I prime with the pump sideways, and ALL ball valves open, I can get prime once I see water in the outflow hose. I'm also super paranoid about cavitation, as it makes me feel like I'm breaking the pump. My setup has 3 ball valves, but the...

    Brew kettle upgrade

If you don't mind aluminum, I got a decent kettle at waresdirect.com for less than $50 (30 quart). It says 32, but I recently recalibrated mine (with an installed sight glass) and it's only 30. They have stainless steel for less than $100 too, for that size. The aluminum is nice quality, sturdy...

New Homebrew shop opening in Sioux Falls

Apparently, Heist had a brewing store, but also apparently just closed. This is all unconfirmed conclusion from their website, and that their building is now up for sale. If anyone has confirmed information, that'd be awesome. Brookings needs a homebrew shop!

    Jet burner question

I have the same burner (have yet to get it on a stand, and use it, but it worked in test firing). When I asked the guys at Tejassmokers.com, they said that each jet was its own orifice. What you need is a 1-20psi regulator and several inches of 1/2" or 3/8" pipe leading to it to reduce the...

Creating an NA (Or...how I neutered my beer)

I'm really excited to hear back about this, because I'd like to do this for my dad, if I can get it below 0.5%ABV. It's a long shot, but it'd be worth it, just to be able to share my obsessive hobby with him!

Additional Regulator - Can I add one

Kegconnection.com offers some "add-a-body" reg bodies to do just that! The setup looks like it works with most regulator brands, and they offer it in both right-hand and left-hand thread setups. I am hoping to do that as I can afford to expand my keg setup. Give them a look-see.

Best bang for the buck kettle?

I just purchased a 32 quart aluminum off wares direct, and after another quick check, confirmed that they have a 40 quart stainless with lid for only $80 (+15 shipping). Seems like the best deal I've seen.
