    Yeast from Nov. 2011

Brewed 5-12 and the 1332 took off nicely. It's been three days since I pitched and my basement smells wonderful. I can say that it smelled and looked like beer in my flask.

    Magnet help?

I have ten (10) rare earth magnets bought from a jeweler. They don't grab both poles of the stir bar. WTF? Did I make a bad choice in magnets? I thought all magnets had a N/S pole and would automatically grab both ends of the stir bar. I have made several other stir plates that worked...

My Stirplate... Cheap and Easy Build...

I have built six of these types of stir plates. I found out two things: if the magnets are not directly in the center of the spin it will throw the stir bar and too much power too soon will throw it for sure. Well the day after my last post the top almost blew off. Quick goat thinking, I rigged a blowoff tube in time. It rocked for just under 36 hours. Such a small starter did all that. It smells wonderful. Thanks for the help guys.

    Pacman harvest

I harvested Pacman from a Rogue bottle; drank the beer, capped the bottle with sanitized new cap, and refrigerated for 2 weeks. I then made a 1L starter from the yeast in the Rogue bottle. I decanted the beer off the top, pitched the yeast on 11.28 @ 70*. I am nervous the yeast was dead...
