Its finally here!! (Yes, yet another build thread...)

What kind of tri-clamp fits to the sanke fitting? I don't know that I've seen this done before! I also really dig the control box. Reminds me of the digital trainer we got in school.

Do you really need a control panel for e-kettle?

If you're hell-bent on not building any sort of controls you may be better off forgetting about 10g batches and just going with a 2000W-ish 120V element for 5g batches. You could run that full blast and not really worry about having to control its output. That or a PWM build like DustBow has...

Electric Brew Kettle on a Budget

Normally the gap between phases (up to 600v) would be minimum 1" in NEC. Though, The actual air-gap with a 250v potential is really only around 0.1mm.... so is it safe? Not by the NEC. Is it going to be a real problem? Doubtful. I would space them out or wrap them. Better yet - install a breaker...

Efficient Octagonal CPVC manifold for Rubbermaids

Carter, Looks great. The only thing I may be worried about is the torched piece. Correct me if I'm wrong, but heating and bending the CPVC like that may release some nasties. I know for sure it did when you bent it. Call me a bit paranoid, but what I would do in order to get the height you...

Too dry for a Belgian Tripel?

The sleeping beast has been disturbed! Well, just about 4 months after brewing this tripel, I'm still aging it. It's sitting carbed in a keg as I speak. The fusel alcohol has dropped pretty dramatically, and it's drinking pretty well now. Great esters, and with the carbonation it doesn't...

Too dry for a Belgian Tripel?

Thanks for the comments folks. As far as calibration of my hydrometer goes, it's fine. 1.000 in distilled water, and it confirmed the 1.004 with my buddy's refractometer. As I said in my OP, I'm not even going to be tasting it for a while. I know very well this 11.9% monster is going to take a...

Too dry for a Belgian Tripel?

I brewed a Triple based off of The Dragonmead Final Absolution Clone 3 weeks ago today. Here's the recipe I followed: Brew Type: All Grain Date: 3/19/2011 Ingredients Amount Item Type % or IBU 14.50 lb Pilsner (2 Row) Bel (2.0 SRM) Grain 78.9 % 1.88 lb Munich Malt (9.0 SRM) Grain 10.2...

    Sweet Stout Deception Cream Stout

Well, I brewed this on Jan 17th and started cracking bottles last night. LOVE IT! It finished pretty dry (1.010) due to missing my mash temp. Even though it's a bit dry it's still creamy and smooth. This one won't last long!

Cannot Solder to save my life

When soldering, make sure you're heating the part that is to be soldered. When the part is at the right temp, the rosin-core solder will run effortlessly onto the joint. I know when I first started soldering, I tried heating the solder to the iron or ONTO the joint, making it much tougher on myself.

Have you found "The" beer to end all beers

My favorite beer is the one sitting in my glass.

Please critic my first all grain attempt

    Next time, I'd do hop additions closer to something like: 0.50 oz Millennium [15.00 %] (60 min) Hops 34.3 IBU 0.50 oz Cascade [5.50 %] (30 min) Hops 9.7 IBU 0.25 oz Millennium [15.00 %] (30 min) Hops 13.2 IBU 0.50 oz Cascade [5.50 %] (15 min) Hops 6.2 IBU 0.50 oz Cascade [5.50 %] (5...

    Aluminium for sparge?

Like it has been said, the boiling water actually builds up aluminum oxide on the pot and prevents the aluminum from leeching into your wort. Just make sure you do not use any oxyclean when you rinse the pot after use. Just use some water and a soft rag. And yes, Brewmasters Warehouse is my...

    Flow rate on batch sparge

I'm also curious about this. I've just done my first AG last week and it does seem to me that if I run slower it gives the wort more time to drain out of the grains. So if I take my time and run slow, could that perhaps bump up my efficiency a bit?

    $100 bottle of beer

Love 'em. We get a couple every year in our store. Does anyone else play Land Mines?

    Aluminium for sparge?

Go for it. If it fits your budget, then it's a better choice. My kettle and HLT are both aluminum. I'm still breathing. Good info: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f11/faq-aluminum-pots-boil-kettles-49449/

    DIY - Mash/Lauter Tun

Only thing I can say is that I went with the cpvc manifold in my coleman 77qt extreme and I'm extremely happy with it. Very easy to take apart and clean. Also, when vorlaufing it ran clear in under a quart. Nothing bad to say about it. I don't have experience with the SS braid.

    floating thermometer broken

If it's like mine, I think they're made of lead. I'd probably toss the batch if that's the case. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, and let's hope that they're not lead.

    Sweet Stout Deception Cream Stout

Brewed the AG version tonight. OG Sample tasted amazing. Was my first AG batch - all new equipment to boot. Quite happy with 78.2% brew house efficiency. Can't wait until it's ready!

    Bell's Hopslam

It's available in 12oz 6pk and the mini keg format this year. I work for a package shop in GA and our distributor doesn't have it yet. It is available already in some areas.
