Gas and Gas lines on Brew Rig

I wanted to post this because with all my searching all I ever found was people using black pipe, copper, or those ugly yellow flex appliance lines for their rigs. (no offense intended to those who have used these methods) I wanted something more like what you would find on a commercial BBQ. I...

    Party taps

So since I just experienced a nasty surprise... I figured it warranted a reminder to folks that haven't physically cleaned out their party taps in a while. So I just disassembled my taps in my kegerator and MAN where they GROSS!!! I run oxyclean and sanitizer through them at every beer...

    wyeast 3864 Canadian-Belgian

So I'm having some interesting experience with this yeast. It's still chugging away but took a gravity reading this afternoon and it came out as 1.009 after starting at around 1.091 after a couple weeks. It is a Belgian Golden Strong: 95% pils and half lb honey malt. Then a lb of clover honey...

    the elusive pliney the younger...

Well I thought for sure i'd find a pint on my third try this year. Braving a downpour and and the evil parking maids of downtown Portland. I walk into Bailey's taproom. As I walk into the I see them putting up a sign that says.... Not Younger... Damn it! Damn it all to hell!!! So as I sulk...

    Stainless soldering

So after reviewing the many many many pages of posts in the soldering sticky I tried it out today. No practicing. Just got myself the little kit from airgas and went to it. Standard propane torch I use for making Creme Brulee. Super Easy! I would have done all my fittings but my step bit broke...

    just got highest efficiency yet!

Just brewed an Imperial IPA today and got exceptional results on my efficiency. 90% ! will have to see how it turns out still but for batch sparging and 20 min of recirc (same as always) thought it was pretty impressive. The only thing I changed was a new hop spyder and that shouldn't have made...

    cleaning silicone lines

Thought it would be good to get a thread going about cleaning techniques for their brewing process. And, I was wondering how others do it. I'm pretty anal and I pull apart every fitting and valve on my system after running oxyclean through my system, and scrub each fitting with a tooth brush...

Thankful for Home Brew, I will be brewing on thanksgiving.

Anyone else out there planning a Turkey day brew? The wifey is working all day and I recently got my supply of hops for at least most of the year and decided I am going to do a SMASH for each one (4) to really get the sense for this years hops. So, why not brew? Tomorrow, I will be brewing a...

    Mashing tobacco leaves?

The idea came to me while enjoying a bev the other day while a friend had to go outside to smoke... Apart from the fact that it was cold outside, wind blowing the rain sideways, and just not very well accepted here anymore (illegal in public buildings) #1 Would it possible, #2 Would it be cost...

    vanilla in priming sugar

Just a question for some of the more experienced bottlers. I keg most of my beer, but have recently been restocking my bigger beers (bottled) and thought that I might try adding a couple vanilla beans to my priming sugar solution (then remove prior to adding to my bottling bucket.) Does anyone...
