Big brew 2012 - hillsboro oregon - brew brothers

It's an absolute blast! Think simple IMO. Try to do too much for your fist group brew and you might have real issues. I set my new single tier system on fire last year. Oops all turned out well. And remember to bring beer. It's like the biggest homebrew share you've ever been to!

Heading to Portland and looking for brewery/taproom suggestions

If you are looking for taprooms... The best in town are Apex, bailey's, Belmont station and Beermongers and green dragon saraveza are the best. All have a great vibe and different feel. Breweries are a different animal all together.

Is going all grain worth it ?

so you doubled my mash/sparge recirc time... As far as set up is concerned... I have a single tier system it takes less than a min to wheel it out and turn on the water and propane. As far as the rest is concerned I do any prep/setup, cleaning, sanitation, taking readings takes 2 sec, notes...

Is going all grain worth it ?

if it took me consistently more than 3.5 hours to brew I wouldn't do AG. wow 6 hours? my brew day: 30 min to heat 15 gal h20 40 min mash/recirc/sparge 20min mash, 5-10min recirc/sparge 20min bring to boil 60min boil 15min chill direct to fermenter 10 sec pitch yeast 20-30 min clean...

    adding a fruit flavor

The 4oz bottles say to add the whole thing to 5 gal.... don't listen. Start with 1/4 and move up as you see fit. if it takes the whole thing to get it where you want it fine... But, you'd hate to ruin it. It's a personal thing, so slowly add it till you find the balance you desire. good luck!

    2nd Homebrew, 1st All-Grain & BIAB, My Take on Biermuncher's Orange Kolsch

looks like a fine recipe... I think you will probably get a little lower efficiency that 72. My experience has shown around 60% for BiaB worst case just add some honey at flame out :-) since it is a kolsch I'd definitely use a fining agent in the secondary (like gelatin) it will guarantee that...

Is going all grain worth it ?

So first off it really depends on what you desire from brewing... Does it take more equipment? Sure, but not that much. You really only need one extra vessel. (i'm sure I'll get flamed here, lol) and at that you could do BiaB and eliminate that extra vessel... as far as cost of that equipment...
