    Root Beer and yeast

Has anyone ever tried fermenting root beer extract to make a alcoholic root beer? Also, hops or no hops?

    Hose on gas post?

I was just given a corny from a friend. It has a hose attached to the gas post that runs to the bottom of the keg. Would having the CO2 entering the beer from the bottom up absorb faster? Has anyone here ever used this method.

    Lost 5 gallons!!!

Learned my biggest lesson to date. First batch to keg and I did not hang the cobra tap. I'm guessing that it depressed when I threw it in the cooler and closed the lid. Came back from work today with my Corny floating in 5 gallons of homebrew. Keg was dry as a bone. Made me sick.

Entire volume of h20 for extract brew

Is there an issue with adding the entire volume of water at the beginning of the process, then steeping my grains, and adding my LME and hop additions instead of adding extra water after the boil.

    Guinness FES Clone

I just brewed this yesterday with 2 vials of WLP004. OG was 1.062. MY fermentation chamber has been between 72 and 78 degrees since. I have excessive krausening. Is there an issue with fermentation temps this high?

    Small batch fermenting container

I am wanting to start brewing small one gallon batches. I am looking for good small food grade containers (1.5 to 2 gallon). I found the container below. My question is, would a skinny or unsymmetrical container affect fermentation. I figured that I could prop the container at an angle so...

    Abita Strawberry Trade

I am willing to trade Abita Strawberry for some Pliny, Dogfish, Victory, etc. We are sort of limited as far as US craft beers go.

    First Brew Day Completed!!!!!

I have been researching, studying, and watching videos of every home brew topic that I could get my hands on for the past 3 months. I finally decided that it was time to dive in and brew. I brewed a NB Honey Brown Ale and cannot wait to drink it in about 6 weeks. A huge THANK YOU goes to...

    Whey as an ingredient

I ran into an article that mentions a "Stilton Beer" (link below). Stilton is cheese, so that made me curious. Reading further, I noticed that there is no cheese actually added to the beer. Instead, they use the whey that separates from the cheese curds. Does anyone have any experience with...

    Type of DME for starter

I am collecting my equipment and preparing to make my first batch of homebrew. When making a starter, does it matter what type of DME is used? For example, I will be making a Brown Ale and have some Munton's Amber DME for my starter. My HBS had light, amber, and dark DME. I would assume that...

    Is my yeast still good?

I received a recipe kit from Northern Brewer and put the box in the shelf. After about a week I realized that there was yeast and hops that should be in the fridge. Did I damage the yeast?
