Is there any harm in using a long cord for elec. boil kettle? >20ft?

Just properly size the cord. I think this table helps.

    Contactors

Technically I guess the grainger model is a relay and the auber one is a contactor... you can google the nitty gritty difference, but they both work.

Uhhh anyone see this.... Pioneer Breaker

Wow, that's disturbing. Guess I will find a new vendor. I understand that the legal action was regarding breakers, but I don't feel the need to support someone who defrauded customers... I will spend a little extra money.

    Electric Keggle BK/HLT Controller

Am I reading this correctly, you want one pid controlling one kettle (which you will use for hlt and bk)? If this is the case, it's only a matter of adjusting the temperature setting...

First all grain brewday has begun.

caution, all grain brewing is addictive... I wouldn't worry about keeping the sample around until you get a new hydrometer, the beer will taste great with out knowing the efficiency!

    Couple of questions

    1. I've only used the bcs so I can't compare 2. Yes it does pwm 3. 4500w works fine with 5gal, 5500w works too I like the bcs-460, especially if you have any plans that could use the functionality of the bcs. PID's are nice if you want to dedicate them to just the one task...

    Pump it Up!

New to Electric brewing - 5 gallon setup questions

Your right that the 5400 will be cut to 1350 watts. This will probably bring your 6-7 gallons to a boil, but it will take a ridiculously long time. You will be better of with a 120v element rated at 2000w or so...

Can't build it... will this do?

This bucket heater is just a different version of a water heater element. There shouldn't be any kind of "nasty stuff". It also says the shroud is stainless, which is good. I would use this in the hlt and then use propane for the boil.

    How big is your panel?

I have the 12x12x6 case and find that its very cramped... It all fits, but with more space it would be easier. The contactors and the pids will likely need to be offset from each other because of the depth (or lack thereof) of the case.
