    Just made my first batch...

Well, after doing a bit of reading, there is one other (potentially big) mistake I think I made. After cooling the wort and dumping it into the carboy, I added tap water to fill to 5 gallons. Apparently I missed the part on boiling the water before putting it into the carboy, so did I put myself...

    Just made my first batch...

and I thought it was gonna be a piece of cake, but man, it's pretty easy to do something stupid. I was attempting to do Cheesefood's caramel cream ale, but I doubt that's how it's going to turn out. I did a 2 gallon boil in a 3 gallon pot (no boil-over! :D ) It went well, but when the...

How many gallons of EdWort's Apfelwein have been made?

    Another five for me.... 730

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Well, my first batch, following the recipe to the T, turned out great :) But I'm thinking of adding a little sweetness for the next batch. I'm thinking 2 pounds of corn sugar again for the alcohol boost, plus a pound of lactose for sweetening. Sound good? Also, can I just add the lactose along...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I bottled mine last week and I just used a bunch of bottles I had lying around - Heineken, New Belgium, a couple microbrews, etc. I'm not really presenting to anyone though - if my friends want some, they get reused bottles. :)

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Got my batch bottled tonight, after 2 days of sitting with no bubbles and looking clear :) I threw some in the fridge to test tomorrow, maybe with some club soda or 7-Up. One thing I noticed... I tasted some today while I was bottling and it definitely had a bit of a yeasty flavor. This will go...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Man, Kalvin, your pic is making me want some apple crumb cake right now :) So if I want to carbonate about half of the bottles, I can just sprinkle corn sugar into the bottles I want to carbonate, yes? I think I heard something about 1/2 teaspoon per bottles, does that sound about right?

    Man, I love Apfelwein

After two weeks, I've got some pretty nice looking Apfelwein. The fermentation slowed to a stop in the last couple of days and is starting to clear up. Needless to say, I'm getting antsy to taste it :) How clear does it get inside the carboy? Like, can you see through it to the other side?

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I've heard that too :) I was just concerned after reading through the thread and seeing people talk about seeing bubbles for 2 weeks straight, or even longer...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I don't think it does, at least I'm not planning on carbonating mine. One thing that's got me kinda worried though... it's been 9 days and mine has slowed down to a bubble per minute or so. Isn't it too soon for it to slow down like this? Anybody else had this?

    Removing Clear Plastic Labels

This might be a stupid question, but can I use any bottles that don't have twist off caps? Like Fat Tire or Heineken? Oh and about Heineken, I know the dangers about using green bottles, but I'm brewing Apfelwein, which has no hops so no worries :)

    Carboy Question

I'm pretty new to brewing, but from what I've been reading, glass carboys do not retain any smell or color from any brew, or cleaning product. That and you can watch what's going on inside the fermenter :)

    Man, I love Apfelwein

First of all, I'd like to say hello to everybody, I'm new here and I've chosen this recipe to be my first brew. Just made it tonight and that month-long wait is definitely going to suck. Anyhow, I was wondering if 65 degrees is alright for fermentation? Or is it much better to go higher to...
