What type of bottled water would you recommend using for an East Coast IPA?

In the past I would just use whatever bottled water was on sale at the store but I've read some threads lately that said not all bottled water was equal and some even mentioning distilled water. Anyone have any suggestions? I never really paid much attention to the water b/c I was just using...

    Purchasing a new 14g stainless steel conical...suggestions

I'm waiting on the 14g Spike Conicals to be available. That's how I'm leaning anyway. Any other suggestions or you think that is the way to go? Had a blichmann for several years and time for new toy.

Did Blichmann Just Change Their Beer Gun Tip Design?

Nothing but trouble with that thing from the start. I hate it.

What do you recommend for a 14g stainless steel conical fermenter?

I currently have a 27g Blichmann and I am looking to downgrade. Just too much headspace for 5g batches and causing some off flavoring in my beer (at least that is what I am left to believe after testing and trying everyone else that could cause it). Would be grateful for suggestions. Currently...

27g Blichmann Conical Fermenter (head space)

I upgraded my homebrew setup several years back and think I went to big. I went with a 27g blichmann conical fermenter. In hindsight I should have gone with the 14g. I typically do 5g or 10g batches. The beers I've been making for years now come out decent but I feel like they all have this...

    Beer darkens in secondary. Why?

So this has happened past few batches now. Could it be bc I'm doing a 5g batch in my 20g fermenter? Too much head space? Most recent batch did a very pale ale with 1/2 gallon pasteurized cucumber juice added to secondary. Poured first pint today. Taste good but it went from straw color to...

    Kegerator problem

Very odd problem i cannot solve. One tap on my 3-tap kegerator will not dispense. I pulled the keg and tested it with different tap and it works fine. When i pulled it, however, one of my other kegs wouldn't dispense. Throw this keg back in and other lines are fine again but this one still...

    Getting my lager lighter

So I brewed another batch of lager this winter. I was trying to get something similar to Bitburger but again this year, while it taste very good, the brew came out more like an american saranac lager. What can I do to get a very light golden color and light body to the lager as oppossed to the...

Best site for converting extract to grain?

Would the pale just be an american "pale ale" grain? The Light DME just be a 20L? The Wheat be any American Wheat?

Best site for converting extract to grain?

I'm trying to convert my partail grain recipe to AG. The extract in the recipe is 1 lb Light DME, 3 lbs Pale LME, 1 lb Wheat DME. How do I know exactly what grains to use for the extracts? I know I can roughly divide the extracts by .67 to convert but I'm just not sure specifically what grain...

How do you label your bottles?

Create labels for all my beers. Quite time consuming. I name all my beers after music/songs I enjoy. Have even gotten my beers to the guys in Furthur, Ryan Montbleau Band, and others. Have them sign a label for me and frame it in my 'man cave' downstairs. I also keep one bottle from each I...

Can you always just pitch more yeast?

Tried raising the temp for a few weeks and nothing changed. It has since cooled down a bit. I am going to bring it back up to around 70 and pitch some champagne yeast and see if I get any results from that. Will let you know. Worst case it is a bit sweeter than I wanted but the carbonation...

2 questions about brewing a very high gravity beer

Thanks. Was first attempt at a monster ale like this so will make some adjustments next time. I am actually going to pitch some champagne yeast just to see if I can get any of those residual sugars and dry it out a bit. Can't hurt. Will let you know if there is any success with that.

Can you always just pitch more yeast?

Recalculated starting gravity was 1.20. Final Gravity was 1.050. I'm thinking of pitching some champagne yeast to try and dry it out a bit and maybe eat up even just a little of that residual sugar

Can you always just pitch more yeast?

So I did hit my final gravity and beer came in at 21% but its really sweet. Think I went a day or two too much adding the dextrose. Probably should have called that off. Disappointed in how sweet it is but happy with everything else. I just didn't anticipate hitting that 21% so quickly...
