One other question I've seen people mention using lead free plumbing solder, is that safe for food contact applications like this? Is there any benefit to the more expensive silver solder?

The Sestos timer has a reset button, but no pause. Its a pain compared to the Auberins timer, but changing the time setting is much easier on the Sestos timer. No the timer does not interact with the PID. Also you only need one buzzer. I would definitely add the alarm switches inline...

I also had a screwy auto tune that seriously messed up the PID settings. Once I reset the P,I and D settings it was reading properly. It sucked having to move the I setting from 9999 (and yes the setting will not loop back to 0, I set up a movie and held the down button for over an hour)

I thought the general consensus was that when drilling stainless you need to go slow speed with pressure and cutting oil. This is to prevent work hardening the stainless. If this happens, go luck cutting with a step bit.
