Washington 11 Gal fully electric BIAB System

I sold the system last week, thanks for the interest. --------------------------------- Full disclosure, this system was for sale earlier in the year at this link. A number of people expressed interest, but my wife and I had an unexpected move that put selling the system on the back burner...

Washington 11 Gal fully electric BIAB System

Thanks for all the kind words guys. I apologize but I never updated my location information. I'm actually now located in Seattle WA, not Charlotte NC. I should have updated my location to reflect that, sorry for the confusion. To clarify moving across country, starting a new full time job...

    Soldering Stainless steel

Thanks PJ, your always looking out for everyone. Does anyone have experience with this solder, looks like it might be a better substitute: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-25ecodZ5yc1v/R-100210902/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&keyword=solder&storeId=10051 I'm trying to find...

    Soldering Stainless steel

One other question I've seen people mention using lead free plumbing solder, is that safe for food contact applications like this? Is there any benefit to the more expensive silver solder?

    Soldering Stainless steel

Would this solder work as long as you use the proper harris liquid flux? http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062725

    Soldering Stainless steel

I'm looking at adding a bottom drain to my kettle. I'd prefer not use a coupling since I don't want gunk building up in the threads, and I'm not sure if I want to go all the way to Triclovers, has anyone soldered a pipe nipple to the base? McMaster sells them in 1" lengths and many...

    TJTHEBEST's E-BIAB Build!

Just a suggestion on the alarm switches. I'd recommend adding an inline switch between both the timer and the PID to the buzzer like in my diagram. Otherwise you'll have to be constantly changing the PID alarm to use the timer alarm. For example if you set a high temp alarm at 155 to let you...

Tips for insulating Kettle with Reflectix

The melting started at boiling temps, but really didn't get bad until I set the lid on the kettle for the whirlpool. The good news is I was able to hold mash temps at 150 for a solid 60 minutes. I read somewhere that the max temp for the material is around 140. I suppose I could make a...

    WTB solder dimple tool

I was wondering if any awesome HBT member would be interested in helping out a fellow home brewer. I really want to swap out my weldless fittings for soldered fittings. However I'm having a hard time swallowing the cost for the dimple tool that I've seen many use. If you've made a dimple tool...

Tips for insulating Kettle with Reflectix

I bought some reflectix to better insulate my kettle during mashing. My system is an 11 gallon eBIAB so I don't have to worry about burner heat. I ended up using 4 layers and made cut outs for the heating element, ball valve and sight glass. I think overall it turned out pretty good. I'll...

    TJTHEBEST's E-BIAB Build!

The Sestos timer has a reset button, but no pause. Its a pain compared to the Auberins timer, but changing the time setting is much easier on the Sestos timer. No the timer does not interact with the PID. Also you only need one buzzer. I would definitely add the alarm switches inline...

Auber SYL-2352 PV reading way off

I also had a screwy auto tune that seriously messed up the PID settings. Once I reset the P,I and D settings it was reading properly. It sucked having to move the I setting from 9999 (and yes the setting will not loop back to 0, I set up a movie and held the down button for over an hour)

    TJTHEBEST's E-BIAB Build!

In case you want to use a SESTOS timer off ebay instead of the auberins one, here is my build: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f170/brekhokies-ebiab-build-302663/ I personally find the timer very usefull, I would highly recommend it. I should have updated pictures pretty soon.

    Blichmann Boilermaker cosmetic defect

It's actually more like saying "I'm buying a corvette" and you chiming in with "Why not a beat up 66 Shelby Cobra" you could save some money up front, and with a lot of work it could be just as nice as a corvette.

Stout Tanks and Kettles - $400 14.5 Gal Conical

I thought the general consensus was that when drilling stainless you need to go slow speed with pressure and cutting oil. This is to prevent work hardening the stainless. If this happens, go luck cutting with a step bit.

    Plate Chiller or new immersion

I brew in my garage and hook the output up to a 50ft garden hose. The hose goes to flowers beds in the front and side of the house. I found by the time the water makes it through the 50ft length of hose its pretty close to ambient temperature. Its great for the wife factor too. "Honey...

Explain to me why people don’t use this?

It also depends a lot on what tools you have to start with. Sure they might not be directly part of your part list, but they add up.
