    Yeast Harvesting

I thought the dark stuff was suppose to be on the bottom when harvesting yeast. Not sure if that's true or older yeast. It was taken from a SS conical fermenter. Can anyone tell me what's going on. I'm new to harvesting and washing yeast.

    Sweet Stout Deception Cream Stout

Well I tested the gavity last nite. 1.026 Im pretty happy with that. I accidently added an extra 1/4 of lb of lactose. I only added .5oz of hops so it would stay around the correct IBUs. I tasted a sample and it great. Lookin forward to bottling on sunday. Thanks to everyone that helped me out...

    Sweet Stout Deception Cream Stout

So im brewing thos 2moro. And i decided just for the heck of it to punch the recipe into promash. Looks like .75oz of hops @ 13.4% for 60 min comes to an ibu of around 41 or 42. But if i drop it to .5oz its almost dead on with the ibu. So im wondering if the poster of this recipe used the .75oz...

how long to keep star-san in plastic carboy

It shouldnt hurt. But I'd resanitize just before you decide to put your wort in it. I assume your using it as a primary fermenter.

Thanks for the info. I dont have the equipment yet. Plan on waiting closer to spring. When its a little warmer than close to 0 degree weather haha. I'll probably start out with the two coolers and a boil pot. Im thinking 10 gal coolers and a 20 gal boilpot. Just thought I'd throw the recipe...

OK, I've only done 3 extract kits, but im planning on going AG. I've been tryingto think up my own IS recipe for my first brew. Probably not a good choice for a first AG im guessing. But hey what will it hurt. Ive been reading quite a bit now for the last few weeks. Just trying to get an...

    Types of pumps???

Can someone let me know where to find a pump. It sounds like a magnetic drive type pump is recommended. Just looking for an affordable one. Some links or stats on what I should need would be good. It would be used for maybe circulating ice water through a chiller and for moving wort. So im...

Id likd to start brewing all grain as soon as my two extracts are finished. But i just wanted to clear a few things up first. When i do a protein rest. Do i drain the water or leave it in the mash tun and add the next amount of water it asks for. And is the second amount that needs to be added...
